general consensus on non-ruger gun?

How do you feel about the Argentina contract Hi-Powers? Are these good guns? I currently own no polymers and no . 40s and may consider this 9mm. instead. It feels good in my hand. I know the owner and he has never had any issues with it. Its in great shape. Thanks.

I would look at what the customer service network looks like it the states. Availability of parts etc. Also if any local gunsmiths work on them. Look at what the warrenty is and how that is handled. Also check to see if that gun has any fans and has a forum of it's own.

This is why I pretty much have stayed with Ruger and Smith's for years. Now Springfield and Glock.

If it's truly a Contract HP, then it was made by FN in the 60's in Belgium for a contract with Argentina. Those are the most desirable fo the Argentinan HPs.

The FM ( Fabrica Militar , not FN ) HiPowers are made in Argentina , but are genuine liscenced exact HiPowers. They are 100% interchangable with the FN and Browning guns. All the major 'smiths who specialize in HiPowers consider them interchangable.

From the factory they are configured similar to early '70s Brownings , except that my FM was 100% with all ammo tried.

So yes they are good guns at a good price.

I'm surprised that the HP stormtroopers haven't come on and laid complete waste to this thread. I like HP's but I own none of them, there are better guns, for me at least. I've always wanted one, they pull on the heart strings from a younger time.

...but if you have ever listened to the condescending crap that comes from an HP fanboi or a group of them, like all made out of Belgium Hi-Powers are crap or that they have to be made when the moon is in the fifth of Venus by Spartical Benyoui, the master cheeseburger eater or something like that. It truly is such drivel. The HP is a nice gun and it's pretty but it isn't in anyway the best semi-auto pistol ever made. If you can find one at a good price that is worth more than that, you at least have a damn good trade in gun.

HiPower pros : decent trigger , balances like it were designed by J.M. Browning, THE best feeling highcapacity grip I have ever used ( even though 12-13rds is no longer as hicap as it used to be ) .Cons : origional style sights are rather *period correct* , the thumb saftey , and slide release on my FM worked for me , in my hands, but are also *period correct* , and many people prefer somthing a little larger.

Yes the CZ75s , and various clones do have a grip very reminiscent of a HiPower.

Thanks for all the input! Great accurate information. There may have been a slight change of plans. I may have just received the opportunity to buy back my Sig P229. We'll see how this plays out! Some of you may recall in another thread that was the . 40 Cal. I was missing (emotional attachment)
