I didn't start driving until 1970.... but I remember filling up my Dad's '68 Impala at 10 cents a gallon during one of the many gas price wars that always seemed to be going on in Tulsa.

I once bought Ethyl in Oklahoma City for 12 cents a gallon during a price war in 1960. That was Phillips 66 Ethyl** too. Wonder what happened to those "price wars" you sure never see them anymore !!
** Did I forget to mention that was FULL SERVICE station??

Now the taxes are OK 18.4 and diesel 24.4 TX 38.4 diesel 44.4.
Does anybody know why diesel is higher? SEEMS it should be lower to help the commercial vehicles that bring US all of our products.

Diesel is higher because of all the demands on the fuel from environmentalists. Then of course you have the Boutique recipes that many states demand as well. The other thing is that this time of year diesel competes with heating oil at the refinery.
Don't worry, as soon as our oil industry shuts down the Arabs will raise the price again.

............
Wyandot Jim said:Diesel dose not compete with heating oil. In a distillation process there is X amount of diesel, jet, gasoline and X amount of H O in a barrel of oil. A refinery with a Cat Cracker any type of product and quantity can be made from a barrel of oil. Low Sulfur Diesel has a lot less additives in it than Gas. None at one time. The USLD diesel was only suppose to cost .$05-25 more per Gal. to makeSo when high sulfur diesel was 10-25 cents a gallon less than gas it should now be the same price.
Could be Jim, however every time we ask the question why is diesel so high around here, they claim it's due to the switch over to heating fuel production every fall.
