Fertilizer prices have doubled...

Since last year!
Most of my tomato and pepper plants that I started from seed earlier this year, are about ready for transplanting outdoors. We stopped in at our local Lowe's earlier, and I purchased the usual stuff that I've used for many years now, bone meal, blood meal and Dynamite brand Mater Magic, plus some Alaska brand soluble fish emulsion...And, it all totaled nearly $65!
It was all around 30 bucks last year.

I think we were all supposed to starve by now, but all they did was crank up the price in the lawn department.

Sounds like you are growing more than peppers and tomatoes? Blood meal is used for greens and other leaf vegetables. Mater Magic should suffice to strengthen the tomatoes and bone meal takes more time to brake down than it takes for peppers to grow, so the fish emulsion should be faster acting. If you think fertilizer is high, look at the price of propagated plants. Peppers in a six pack are almost a dollar a piece, and individual vegetables are on sale at 3 for 10 dollars.

Makes me happy that we fall applied our cropland fertilizer. I'm still getting gouged on the hay ground fertilizer but with the acre reduction from 40 to 10 for 2026, it won't be as painful as it might have been.

Gosh, 40 acres used to be a woodlot. My have times changed?

I normally harvest and sell hay but the market has taken a dump so not wasting time and $$ harvesting something that isn't worth the effort. In the past, 40 acres of good hay grossed about $10K but not now. Pasture has about the same payout as hay production and doesn't cost me either time or expense.

Over $800/ton right now. We hit the hayfields 2 1/2 weeks ago. Anhydrous on the wheat fields is nearly $1000/ton. What do you do? Gotta have it- there ain’t enough chicken poop to go around for every farmer.

I sit on my six and collect from stock investments, military & VA pensions, co-ops, social security, and occasionally consult the Big Orange Box on their Nursery. That almost makes me retired.

There was a time when corn brought much more $'s in its liquid form than either on the cob or as loose kernels. Actually still does I think, see the post on the interesting new church.

1: Big oil doesn't want corn turned into gas or soybeans turned into diesel and now they're raping the Americans over a squabble that doesn't actually affect American fuel supplies.
2: I realize that the Midwest isn't the cattle empire it once was but I'm not seeing empty pastures in the 'Green Hills' of north MO. Again, I think consumers are being fed a line of bull :poop:

If you take the Subsidy's out of Ethanol and Biodiesel it is not feasible to start with. Never was. Nor is having 10 acres of hay meadow. I M118LR outlook on Retirement!!! Way to go!!

Just wondering, with your reduction in acreage, will you need to increase the price per bale?
