I tried the search and didn't get much of a answer. What type is best (brand-batteries-what number of m-and anything else that that will help me decide what to buy.

It depends a little on your situation. I have two covert cameras that send a text to my phone as soon as they take a picture. My land is 75 miles from my home so it saves me a lot of driving. I also knew when it was time to put out more bear bait. The price of the cameras was offset by my time and fuel costs. I also have a moultre. It's OK but most times it seems that it's never quite aimed right.
I've had great luck with Wildgame cameras. The ones that hold 'C' batteries seem to last longer. Higher mp's the better the pictures. I have 2 cameras and just sneak in and out to swap the SD cards. Better to look at the pics on home computer. Get something with quick trigger speeds.

I've had or still have HCO, Stealth, Moultrie, & Cuddyback. I have chosen to just stay with Cuddyback due to the features I prefer. Good quality cameras, reliable, and most of mine have good battery life.

they have several models and options in any price range you want starting at less the $100. I have 4 of the cheapest ones MPE-5's and they are excellent simple cameras that have pre set options. If you step up in prices you get a few more features and more choices in how to set the camera up. I have 5 or 6 of the MP6's/MP8's and a few of the older Red 40's. All have been great, even if i have had a problem they have the best customer services in the business. Have sent a few in over the years and they send me the current model brand new.
The battery life is excellent in all models, some of my batteries have to be close to a year old running the cheaper Rayovacs, they all take anywhere from 8-12 AA's. Some of my cameras are out from Jan-Sept and some or out May-Sept. You can find these cameras on sale through out the year for great prices. I have a bushnell, moultrie, and a buddies Luepold (its never been worth the plastic its made with). The moultrie is an old C battery camera but it still chugs along. The bushnell has been a great camera but doesnt compare to the value of the Red 40's i have and they are comparable in features.
