In the UK we use pistol calibre carbines for Gallery Rifle competions. These are mostly lever action. I would like something else. We can get straight-pull non-auto Mini 14s over here, has the PC9 ever been produced in straight-pull? Could it be converted in the same way the Mini 14 has been? Anyone know?

The Mini-14 straight pull rifles have no gas port, thus no gas impingement on the bolt. As a result, you have to manually operate the bolt for each shot.

The PC9 is a recoil operated rifle, and depends on the strength of its recoil spring to slow down the rearward travel of the bolt to function at an acceptable level. Were you to substitute a spring strong enough to stop the travel of the bolt you would likely be unable to retract it manually without incredibly undue exertion.

Or so I, a non-engineer, believe.

Sounds reasonable. I wonder if anyone has ever converted a Mini 14 to pistol calibre
