Front sight Security Six

Want to replace front sight with something my old eyes can see better, any ideas?

Hunt ebay as I have been. Millet used to make a bright orange and a white front sight. Bushnell bought millet out basically killed all the products except mounts.

Maybe the best solution is some bright green paint. I will check e-bay too, thanks for the tip.

aside from any type of paint as noted above, , IF the front blade is "pinned" one can have another made up (custom) otherwise, I doubt anyone is out there marketing stuff for an item that is long "discontinued"...see this all the time, folks looking for accessories for a firearm that is no longer made by whichever manufactrurer.........back then there were few if any companies making replacement grips & sights, and once the market is 'gone' they start up for the next, latest item (fads & gimmicks we call them)
believe me if there was $$$$ to be made, they'd be doing it............
improvise or customize :wink:

I use the paint method and it works fine for me. I buy testors brand modeling paint. It comes in some really bright colors and you have a choice. I clean the sight with rubbing alcahol and let it dry then use a toothpick to apply the paint only dipping about 1/16" in the paint. It will come out with a ball on the toothpick of paint then tutch that to the back of the sight and it will spread across the sight to give a good even coating. then you move any exess paint up or down on the sight blade it will fill on its own. After applying the paint I use a paper towel and wipe from the front edge of the sight back. thil will remove any exess paint from the edge of the sight. Then set the pistol upright and let it dry overnight. The paint will last several years with normal use and when you get ready to repaint it it comes off easily with a stainless steel brush. Then you repeat the steps for a new finish.

I'll check on a 4" stainless Security six with a red (orange?) insert in the front sight. I assumed it was issued with the revolver. An ex-state police sidearm.

The front sights with the "jagged" bottom may not fit the older model Security Sixes, that had the rounded bottom to the front sight blade. The PA State Police front sight will only fit newer Security Sixes that already came with the red insert blade.

All of the numerous SP101 front sights will fit the older Security Sixes. I have an undrilled Gemini Customs SP101 black front sight and it fits right into the sight channel of my 1978 production Security Six.

You can buy any of the fiber optic or night sights for the SP and have them drilled by a gunsmith or drill them yourself if you have the tools and the skills. I don't trust my skills not to mess up the blade or the gun, so I would rather pay my gunsmith $20 to do it.
