Free 158 gr .357...

Not giving any away, just bragging that I got 100 rounds for free. Another 3rd party hand at work gave me 1 box each of CCI and Monarch 158 gr JHP to shoot through my SP101. Now, maybe I can finally sight in the laser grip since I got some heavy magnums. He's also going to custom load me up some hot loads for it. It's always a good idea to make friends with people at work.

Free (factory) ammo is definitely good! "Hot loads" from someone who may, or may not, know what he's doing? I'd pass.

You know the saying: 'There's two kinds of handloaders; OLD handloaders, and BOLD handloaders. There ain't any OLD, BOLD handloaders!'

Just MHO. Your coworker may be a highly experienced, very safe handloader. Then again...

I learned a long time ago not to reload even mildly warm loads for someone else. An old man down the block had a Smith .357 and didn't have any bullets. I loaded some 1,000+ fps loads for his gun and they jammed it up tight. I had about 6 .357's at the time and they were fine in my guns. The keyword is my guns. I don't know why they didn't work in his. Never again...

Probably because he had been shooting 38s in it for a while and not cleaning out the chambers.

J Miller, I'm going back to '81 so I don't recall all the details. I believe they were Sierra 150 JHC's loaded a good 10% under max. They fit in his chambers with no pushing. It was all I could do to eject them. It still might have been as you mentioned. Maybe his gun was ultra tight and wasn't up to even a slightly warm load that worked in my Smiths, Colts and Rugers with ease. I'll never know as he's passed on.

I've always been a meticulous reloader so that wasn't the issue. If I ever do it again, I will take the gun out and "work up" a load.

As we know, no two guns are the same. That's why reloading manuals say to start at 10% below max. and work up from there. It's just a rule of thumb though...

Oh we've talked about how "hot" the loads are going to be. So, let me be a little clearer... Hotter than most factory, but not Buffalo Bore hot. Just going to be a small run of home defense loads. Definitely nothing over the top, and within specs of the books.

So if he accidentially double charges a case and it causes some serious bodily harm, who would be liable? I reload for nobody and nobody reloads for me.
