Found myself in the Academy Sports down in Waco about 3 weeks ago and happened upon what I consider a treasure. I stopped in to get a box of .22's for my sister when I saw one of those "Clearance" tags hanging on a shelf. I walk over and find that it is Remington 180gr in 30-40 Krag.... :?: .....marked down from $49.99 to $25.99...... :) .....and there are 15 boxes.
Now, I still have my very first deer rifle. It is a Winchester 1895 chambered in .30 US (also known as 30-40 Krag) with a mfg. date of 1899. It is not a caliber that you see very often. So, I carried 5 boxes to the checkout, and watched as they rang up at.....$22.00. Yeah, I went back and got 5 more boxes. Last week I was back near that same store so figured I would swing by again. The remaining 5 boxes were still sitting on the shelf .... so I got those also. I see it as a sign..... ......While it is way more than is needed for these Texas deer, I will be taking that old gun out this year. 8)

Congrats! 8)

Wish my dad hadn't traded off his M-95 in .405 WCF...You can be sure I'd still have it! :(

I still remember him letting me touch one off when I was around 12 yrs old...Ouch! Once was enough...

About ten years ago a local Super Kmart was shutting it's doors and liquidating everything. Cash or credit card, no checks. I went over to the sporting good section and they had 30-30 for $4.00 a box, .308 for $5.00 a box and 30-06 for $6.00 a box. There was 27 boxes of Winchester 170 gr, power point. I forget how many .308s and 30-06 they had left but every bit of it came home with me. 8) There wasn't much .308 or 06 as others had got there before me and to was all 180 gr. round nose in both cartridges. I just shot them up for practice at the range and to get the brass. Still have all that 30-30 though. I usually only shoot my home cast bullets in the 30-30. Still, you never know when that factory ammo just might come in handy. I have a 1981 issue M94 that usually rides in my truck that has factory ammo in the magazine. I much prefer the Winchester M54 bolt action for shooting cast in the 30-30. Won quite a few matches against my buddies, loser buys lunch and I bought very few lunches. Matches are with cast bullets, iron sights and caliber except no .22 LR. Guy with the lowest score buys lunch. Sadly, one guy has passed on, another has moved out of state because mama wants to be close to the grandkids which at this point in time leaves only me. Can't compete against myself. :(
