Found an Old Single Six

Stopped in at a local shop and was window shopping. I noticed a Single Six in the used section and asked to take a look. Well, it is not in the best shape but it does seem functional. I decided that it would be mine despite the light rust. Running the SN by the Ruger site indicates a 1958-1959 era gun. SN: 110268

Are the grips correct?

Any interesting facts about Single Six's from this period of time?

It has more external wear than internal wear.

Barrel is clear and I can see rifling.

Bill, nice old Single Six, I like it ,,,appears to have some of the "new" grips that someone modified the backs of the panels to fit the old XR-3 guns, easy to do, we have done it many times for others....it would clean up, detail very nicely......enjoy it, with the smaller .222" bore they are pretty accurate :wink:

That one appears to have a steel ejector rod housing, I have a 4 5/8" or 4 3/4" barreled specimen I can never remember which is Ruger and which is Colt's standard length, that could be its twin. Nice find!!!

Rugerguy: good catch on the newer grips being modified to fit the older XR3

I do not know if it has been converted. I am a sponge trying to learn more. I have been reading about the conversions but I do not know how to tell visually. Going to go out today to test fire it.

Does not appear to be modified.

Test fired today. Shot great. Nice trigger. Shoots a tab high and left at 25 yards. Hold slightly low and right for consistent hits.

Grip frame appears to be turning plum colored. I'm surprised the loading gate isn't. Nice gun. Good deal.

It has not been converted. There is no transfer bar in your photo, the hammer is not hollowed out on the right side, and the trigger does not jut forward with the hammer down.
Triggers can be thick or thin w/o being converted to the Transfer bar safety action.

It does have a steel ejector housing which was not changed to alum alloy until 1963.

The grip is alum alloy and that's the reason for the non-matching blue color because it was anodized, can't blue the alloy parts.

The plum color only refers to the steel parts which we still see occasionally on new guns. It's a factor of the composition of the casting metal.

If you have been reading this post, you know that I am not an expert.

For what it is worth, I ordered a new ejector housing from Ruger on Friday.

They tell me that they all are steel now days.

I know next to nothing about this topic but thought I would share.
