Ford quits

Ford will keep Mustang and Focus production in this country and move the rest of their car line production to Mexico.

Just goes to show they can't make an economical car that appeals to us consumers.

Ford moving all production of small cars from U.S. to Mexico

quote> DETROIT — Ford Motor said Wednesday it is shifting all of its U.S. small car production to Mexico, a development that drew fresh criticism from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Ford's declaration came as CEO Mark Fields sought to appeal to investors.

"Over the next two to three years, we will have migrated all of our small car production to Mexico and out of the United States," Fields told a meeting in Dearborn, Mich., where the company is based. <end quote

Good, we don't like those small Euro-clown cars anyhow. Bring back the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis.

I hate buying foreign cars. That said, we've tried over and over buying Ford cars, and the majority have been crap. Over and over in the shop for warranty issues that were not corrected. Tried GM. Also crap with similar crap warranty service. My wife said enough. It's her car, and she drove a long way to work every day, so she finally insisted on Asian vehicles. I'm sorry the American jobs will be gone.

The irony is, my Ford trucks thru many decades have been impeccably perfect.

Jimbo, that article is complete trash and ancient. Quoting Mark Fields who has been gone for over a year is a large clue.

Watch the news folks, you will see all US automotive companies dumping passenger cars. Europe still likes cars, but in the U.S. trucks/SUV's are king.

Yeah, that article was published when Obama was still president.

Won’t buy anything from Government Motors......

Me neither! That's when I switched to Ford. Obama closed the only Chrysler dealer in my little town then too.

Hi,

What say we all talk about the same story? Here's one of dozens of reports about what was announced a couple of days ago:

Rick C

As I stated above (from Rick's link)

"And it's not just Ford. Fiat Chrysler did away with the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 more than a year ago. And General Motors decided to scale back production of the Chevy Cruze, Chevy Impala, Buick LaCrosse and the Cadillac ATS and CTS.

Cars are going away in North America.

Yeah Rick I think we are 'cret the convo got sidetracked with a 2 year old reference that didn't apply.

Ford is doing what Harley did a year ago by deleting the Dyna and V Rod from their line up. Harley closed the KC MO plant too and I think 700 or so lost their jobs there. Rumor was almost 100 white collar folks jobs bit the dust in Milwaukee and elsewhere too.

For Harley, now everything is a "soft tail" (mono-shock) except the Baggers. Huge cost savings on running 2 lines instead of four. It's all about the bottom line and profits. While many trumpet how good the economy is ..... many many businesses and municipalities around here are suffering greatly.

Unskilled millennials with poor work ethic demand higher wages. Small employers struggle to compete with the local McDonalds starting wages of $12 hour. Over-regulation and lack of tort reform consume resources. Feds dump financial obligations back on the States and the States dump on cities, towns and counties.

Rant off ..... my apologies to the OP.

i will mis the taurus, the SHO and cop cars are real fast cars.

Seems most of the Ford police vehicles today are Explorers.
And, the Taurus ain't a sniff for speed compared to the AWD Hemi Charger.

Well I thought the OP needed something other than, "Ford has announced that they will drop production of all passenger vehicles (except the Mustang) by 2022."
Sorry the article wasn't current but even that shows this has move been in progress for quite a while.

Here is a better article and current and from foxnews.com. :D

Ford confirms dates when Fiesta, Focus and Taurus production will end

quote> Ford has revealed the dates that it will end production of several of the slow-selling car model lines it will be eliminating in favor of a lineup mostly made up of trucks and SUVs.

As first reported by Automotive News, Ford will stop building the current Focus this May and replace it with a crossover-inspired model called the Focus Active that will be imported from China beginning in the middle of next year. Ford's Michigan Assembly plant where it is currently built will be retooled to produce the upcomming Ranger pickup and Bronco SUV. <end quote
