Flattop Sight Question.....

I have a flattop 44 spcl and I would really like a square outline rear sight blade like on the GP100's, Super Redhawks, etc... Will they interchange? Also, has anyone ever taken a file to the front sight to cut out a "patridge"? If,so, pictures would be nice! Thanks!

The only way you can change the front sight of your New Model Flatttop is if you have a stainless version with the pinned front sight. If you have a blued model you will have to have the front sight milled off and a slot cut to reattach and pin your new sight into.

I'm confused by your question of a sq outline rear sight blade for a 44 Spl FT. I have one and it came w/ one like all the Ruger SAs. It's the same as my Redhawk and the entire rear sight looks the same. What kind of outline does your 44 FT have? Did you buy the gun new or has some former owner modified it?

Here's a pic of my 38-40 with a modest Patridge filed into the front blade. Most I've seen are much larger but catch on everything in my opinion.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant, the square notch with the white outline around it. My gun has factory sights without the white outline. If I could throw 100 bucks at it, I'd get those rough country sights from Bowen Classic Arms. That is a nice and tasteful partridge on your 38-40. I think I am going to give it a shot. Thanks for the picture! Nice gun.

Oh yes you can get those WOL sights from Brownell's and easy to install. If you file the patridge into your front blade and want to restore the factory serrations on the ramp to break up light relection, the correct # file from Brownell's is a # 2 checkering file, 50 lines per inch. Also very easy to do.
