Unfortunetly I missed out on the one I was asking about? It was sold out from under me. Serial # was 14850 and it had the transfer bar mod. completed. As mentioned, it was 98/99%. It was a beauty. He sold it for $350. I assume that was a decent price?

Welcome to the forum!
That serial number puts it in the "Ross" gun range.
Did you look at the gun? do you remember what the front sight looked
like, and was the head of the ejector rod small and serrated?

Being how as it was converted and 98 - 99% finish as you noted it might have been refinished while it was in for the conversion.

This is all speculation on my part from the info you gave. If it was a Ross gun that was a steal reguardless if it was refinished.

Oops, T.A., I believe the OP was discussing Flatgates and not Flattops.... :D

$350 was a steal despite the lack of original parts!!!
As T.A. mentioned, a close inspection would reveal a refinish or original finish.

Type II, with a serrated front sight and a "pre-Blackhawk" short throw ejector housing.
