Flash ammo sales?

Just got this in an email:

They have .223 on sale for $8.99 and Blazer (brass) 9mm for $15.99.

Is this an extraordinary sale? Do these “flash ammo sales” happen that often?

I haven’t been keeping up on ammo prices lately.

For me, I’m not willing to pay shipping. Not saying the sellers control all of that price just that it’s not in my wheelhouse to pay it.

Be interesting to know how much shipping would have been on Kevin’s order.

I priced 500 rounds of 223 somewhere recently and shipping was $70.

Grabagun is a flat $12.99 for shipping no matter the amount, so not too bad. I've gotten a few handguns from them but unfortunately they won't ship ammo to NJ. I think some ammo vendors offer ammo at a lower price but get it back by adding several bucks a box for shipping. What else can explain ordering the same amount from different vendors in the same general location with one vendor charging 2 or 3xs more for shipping?

They post: "All ammo ships for a flat rate of $12.99 no matter the quantity." They also say: "We currently do not ship ammo to CA, IL, NY, NJ, MA, DC, or CT."

50 cents a pop for factory loaded .223 FMJ is the going rate. Often a bit more and usually a shipping fee. Shipping is a deal breaker if you only want a small amount of ammo.
Son paid over $50 for a box(20) of 7mm08 ammo a couple weeks back. I could order it for less BUT we had no idea if we wanted 5-6 boxes (that's where the shipping became acceptable).

My frame of reference is a little off. I have used Winchester 124 grain NATO in 9mm as my practice ammo for several years. Last I bought some was a couple of years ago before the world's most recent turn to crap. At the time it was between $180 to about $195 per thousand delivered, now see it at
$340 to $360 range, not totally terrible in light of the cost of everything else but not great either.
I have a couple year supply right now so won't reorder until it hits about $250 per thousand or I really need some.
I think as supply catches up to demand we'll see continuing price drops back to about 15-20% of what it was a few years back.
Of course if I could see the future I'd still be sleeping in my Hawaiian beach house.

I gotta agree with hittman on the shipping charges for ammo. It usually pushes the cost above what I’m willing to pay.

I guess I’m going to have to go to the gun store and see what the prices are on the shelves.

It’s just been so hot lately, and that just really takes all the fun out of leaving the house, driving and getting out of the car etc…
