flame cutting relief on lcr?

i recently puchased a ruger 9mm lcr, i just notice above the forcing cone that the factory cut what i would call a relief out. it looks like flame cutting like i had on an old service six but this is a new gun. is anyone else who has an lcr have this? thanks

yep ruger admitted the factory did it, i finally got a hold of ruger after a long hold and was told it was done to newer revolvers to prevent future trouble. here is two pics, look at the frame just above the forcing cone.

If memory serves me I believe all the SS frames(9mm, 327 Federal Mag, 357 Magnum) are like that.

My .22mag lcr has the same. Never noticed till now.

Not that it helps with a firearm that already suffers from a flame-cut topstrap, but generally it is worse with high-velocity light-bullet loads. My 38 Spl. LCR has several hundred rounds of +P through it and zero signs of erosion. I shoot 135 grain Gold Dots and 140 grain XTPs. My friend likes 110 grain bullets and his has fewer rounds through it and shows a surprising amount of topstrap wear.
