Flags at half staff, for the Queen?

Ever since QEII passed, I've noticed a lot of flags at half staff (or half mast for you Navy guys). I don't know of any American of prominence that just died so I suspect it is for the late Queen. Personally while I think she was a fine person who well represented the U.K., this is not the U.K. Why would we lower the flag for a foreigner, even a friendly one? Maybe all these lowered flags are for something else, and if so, I stand corrected.

If individual citizens wish to express themselves in that way, I'm OK with it.

The President can order the Flags to half-staff for friendly Heads of State.
Most recently Mr. Abe of Japan.
Others were Pope John Paul II, Shimon Peres of Israel, Nelsen Madela of South Africa and King Hussein of Jordan

I guess I was not aware of the flags being lowered when those folks died.

I certainly don’t mind doing it for QEII. For the first time in history a Brit Royal had the Star Spangled Banner played at Buckingham and Windsor castle in memory of those lost on 9/11 a day or two after the attack.

I never heard about that.

A couple relatives and I went to Europe in November 2001. American flags were on prominent display everywhere we went (5 different countries) in support of the 9/11 attacks.

I don't have a problem with showing support for any of our allies in mourning.

I hadn’t either till after she died. she got a big bump in respect points from me after I heard that, and I always liked her to start with. I also added it was played at Windsor Castle also at the Queens request.

My flag has been at half-staff, in mourning, since the idiot stole office.
It will remain so until that situation is corrected.
I pray it doesn’t go to “distress” status.

I don’t have any problems with the flags at half staff for the Queen. That’s neat about the Star Spangled Banner at Buckingham Palace…I didn’t know that either.

I have no problem with the Queen I think she was a great lady... but I think the American Flag dropped to half staff should only be for an American citizen who has passed... just my opinion and we can see how much that is worth.

The flags were at half staff for 9/11 and probably were neglected to be raised after. The order for half staff for QEII came out and is ordered from sunrise to sunset on the day of her funeral.

I have a side question for those educated in flag (specifically the American Flag) eddicate ..... I and a few friends were at a place over the last few days and the flag on the pole at the place was tattered and torn and one of the guys brought a new flag and we replaced it.... did not even ask permission just did it... I have the old tattered flag and I know I could drop it off at an American Legion post or such and they would dispose of it... but say I want to burn it on my own ... is there a way to do this properly.. and believe me I want to do it with respect and honor.

According to the U.S. Flag Code, when a flag is so damaged that it no longer can serve as a symbol of the country, it should be retired in a dignified way. The preferred method is burning it. But before doing that, you should shred the flag by separating the 13 stripes and leaving the blue spangled field intact.

I have a small flag on my desk that is in distress ( upside down) in that position since the Imbecile in Chief was installed. I make no apologies for my actions, due to the way President Trump was treated by the MSM. Besides , my office is behind 2 locked doors.
