Several years ago a friend sold me a NIB unfired Ruger 10/22 magnum. I say "sold", but it really was more like dangling crack in front of an addict - I did what I had to do and sold myself out for that fix.
The rifle sat untouched in my safe until last weekend when I pulled it out and set it up properly. First step, break it down and pull out the left side extractor, replace the right side extractor with a Volquartsen Exact Edge extractor, and install a bolt recoil buffer. Next step, mount a Leupold Vari-X IIc that I bought from my Dad's buddy a few years ago. Then boresighted it in the hallway at home.
Yesterday I took it to a 25-yd indoor range to sight it in using basic WallyWorld Winchester Dynapoint (JHP) ammo. Results are shown below. Sighting in began with the lower left target, proceeded counter-clockwise then confirmed with the 9-shot ragged hole one inch above the center bullseye.
I think I'll leave it just as it is, other than tuning the abysmal trigger. Will add picture of the rifle later tonight.
