First Pony ride.

I just picked up this Colt, "Officers Model 38" The last patent date is July 4 05. s/n 3381xx. It is my first Colt.

Congrats on the pony find. It appears to have the early deep dish pony emblems on the stocks. If the stocks are in good condition. They are hard to come by. The deep dish was replaced by the late 1920's.

Thanks the stocks are ok condition wise. very usable, but certainly not like new. I'm finding some info on it, it is a second issue, it is a .38special. s/n points to 1912. It has a lot of patina but all and all I am happy to own it.

Colt “Officers Model” 2nd issue 7.5” barrel .38 special. It is from 1912. You can just make out the "stylized C" around the pony That was only used from 1909-1913 AFAIK

Same action as the older Python. Nice old Colt.

I have function tested it. It is a joy to handle and shoot. Extremely accurate. It is definitely a special occasion gun. Seems delicate and svelte compared to today's revolvers.

In 2018 I took it out with my Luger to let my sons shoot them. It was the Lugers 100 birthday Interesting comparison for sure. They certainly make history more interesting.
