I recently picked up a Ruger P95 as my first handgun. Ive already added a Houge Handall because I already had it on my 10/22 but figured it would be better suited for the P. This will be my home defense/range gun.

Im curious if anyone has any suggestions for aftermarket sights. I would like to change out the front to a hi viz of some type but im not sure which one.

I also have the same grip, nice choice. Check out the Williams fire sights , they now have adjustable rear sight but the front you will need to have drilled by a gunsmith.

I have these on mine and they are so nice.Depending on where you get them they are about $60 bucks plus about $35 to get the front installed from a gun smith.

Well worth it because you can dial in the pistol. However, just beware they require sunlight to glow. In a dark room or a room with little light, well.....you will just have to point and shoot.

Excellent choice ~ on the gun and the grip. You'll be hard pressed to find anybody with anything negative to say about the P95 or just about any Ruger P-Series pistol.

Warning you though ...... they're addictive. That dang Revhigh who lurks here prodded me into a P95DC and now I also have a KP90DC and KP91DC.

You picked an excellent handgun... the P95 is one of the most dependable pistols made. Now get to the range and shoot, and after some break-in rounds get some Hornady Critical Defense or Corbon Pwrball ammo for your defensive ammo.

Thanks guys. I havnt put any rounds through it yet but that will change this afternoon. I have a box of WWB and some Remington Ultimate HD I picked up while at Bass Pro Shops. I was actually looking for some Hornady but thats all they had that wasnt FMJ.

How much light do the Firesights need to glow? My apartment isnt pitch black but theres not light pouring in at night with the lights off. I do have a Streamlight Polytac HP coming today though...

I guess I'm just not a fan.... Don't have a need to practice 'safe grip handling'.... never used a condom on my grip. :-) I like it bare.

But its ribbed for my pleasure.
Personally, I like it.

That sleeve has an arrow inside to show which side is up and it looks like it is on backward to me. Does it feel OK in your hand?

Just got back from the range. I love this gun. I did have a few FTEs with WWB on the first couple magazines but figured it was me limp wristing. I adjusted my grip and didnt have a problem for the remaining 100 or so rounds with both hollow points and FMJs.

As for the grip, I originally had it upside down and it didnt look right to me so I flipped it. Its comfortable to me and the bottom is sorta parallel to the magwell opening. Love it.

Here's my opinion on what you consider to be your home defense weapon... on the chance that you might need to use it.... I'm pretty sure you will not be using the sights on the pistol regardless of the lighting.... So, my suggestion is to go to the range .... how ever they do it... put a target out at about 15ft and practice hitting it free hand not using the sights... I'm no great marksman but with my p95 I can bust clay pigeons at 15ft 95% of the time all day long with out using the sights.

I have Trijacon night sights on my P944 that i keep on my night stand and they are great, they show up perfect no matter how dark it is. I plan to have a set installed on my SR40c, they make low light or no light shooting a lot more accurate. P95 is a great pistol, accurate and totally dependable.

12 Gage shotgun. Racking that says go away in any language. Other than that, a few 1911 .45s...

BTW, the p95 is one of those legendary guns that's just "perfect". And Ruger is an awesome company to deal with.

I know I still have alot of practice to do at home and at the range. I thought about getting a shotgun but my wife wont pick one up. She has no problem handling a pistola though.

Thanks for the replies though, its definitely boosting my confidence in the P.

i think the P95 is probably becoming the "Poor man's" 1911.

i've heard many say the 9mm is "Anemic"...that's delusional.

i've had a P95 since i purchased it new in 2001...no problems so far

it's also my 'companion' for my P9 carbine...

the P95 IMO, is now ranked along with the 1911, beretta 92, ak47 etc for it's rugged dependabilty and accuracy.

One 9mm round compared to one 45acp round... yes, the 45 has much more 'stopping power'.... but here is my question... how does 16 9mm rounds compare to 7 or 8 45's?

45: 230gr x 8 = 1,840

9: 115gr x 16 = 1,840

so, they are dead even

I'd add CZ75

I use a 9mm as home defense...

That said, I've always been of the opinion that one or two shots would be more than enough if the situation ever arose... I couldn't imagine 8 or for the love of all things holy..16

Hello all; first timer here.
Yesterday just picked up my Ruger P95 and I like everything about but the rear sights.
Does anyone know the best way to file/smooth down the edges on the rear sight without affecting sight alignment?
Or would I be better off buying new set of sights for whole thing?

Sorry if I posted in wrong place; I couldnt find anything with this question.

Any and all suggestions would be great.

Thank you for your time.

You bought more of those boat anchors ? :D

Again we're into the 'add-on' situation. And that goes for ANY GUN from ANY MANUFACTURER.

By the time you add $100-150 worth of sights and gunsmith work to a P95 or any other gun .... You can usually buy a lot better gun with those features and more .... Like a CZ75B.

The 95 is a good and reliable gun, and I like them, but it's not worth $150 just to upgrade the sights on a gun that's nowhere near a target gun anyway. It's a combat gun with combat accuracy ... Spend the $150 or so on reloading gear or ammo.

CDNN had these brand new for $259 a year or so ago. $279 for stainless.

Excellent pistol. You can run over them with a truck and they will still perform. My second pistol was a P95. The only two problems I ever had with it were when I cleaned it, I forgot to clean under the extractor and it began to have problems with failures to eject. Hmmm. My fault all the way. The second problem was the large grip. My hands are not super big and I had a problem reaching for the trigger. You will enjoy it.

Dave :D

:) New to this forum :) Did me some trading today and got me a p-95
took it out to shoot and man did i do good this is a lot better than my kel-tec 9mm
This one is a keeper for sure.. Also I am a lefty and this is a great weapon
for a lefty!

Congrats one your P95, I took mine the other day and ate up the center of my paper silhouette. Only thing I need to make it better, is a slip on grip.

Happy shooting 8)

Can't figure out why anyone would want to add items to a P95. And believe me I've bought a lot of extras for guns.... Here is why I think the P95 does not need 'new' sights. The reason for a 9mm semi-auto pistol is ultimately for defense... I guarantee is 95%+ of the situations you would need one for this... sites will not be used. Learn to hit your target at 15ft with the p95 not using the sights and you will understand why it is such an excellent handgun. This is not that hard to do.

You are absolutely right, after playing with it at the range; I feel like I do not need any new sights.
My previous statement was said because I thought the sights kept getting snagged in my cheap IWB holster; I noticed it was the grips on the slide that was catching. As far as buying anything for this gun , I think It would feel better with the slip on grip, and I ordered my super tuck IWB, other than that, no need for anything else.

I have a P-95 that I've owned twice .Bought it from a friend and sold it back to him and then he sold it back to me .For keeps this time LOL.
I will admit that Ruger auto's don't really ring my bell, [they just don't fit my hand quite right]but you can't beat the P series guns for reliability , combat accuracy and all around toughness.Being that their less expensive that some lesser guns helps a lot too.
Your gonna love your new gun,ENJOY!!!!
Here's a couple pics of my P-95 after a good cleaning,detailing and armor's inspection .
I'ts not really mine anymore ,my sister in law who lives with us has confiscated it from me ,so it's more her gun than mine now LOL.

I don't think of a better first semi than the P95 ..a P95DC is the ONLY 9mm I own
"Plum" wonderful

Congratulations! Ruger makes strong, reliable pistols, revolvers and rifles. I've owned a lot of them over the years. I was talked out of my P95 awhile back and replaced it with it's big brother P345. Another great gun. My favorite carry gun is a Ruger, a LC9. It's been totally reliable and accurate. My hot weather gun is an LCP, ditto for that one too.

My first handgun was a Ruger P95 with the decocker/safety. Fits my hand perfectly, performs flawlessly, accepts almost any ammo I use.
My only issue was with the Tula steel-cased ammo. It tended to jam in the mag and not feed properly after a few shots. I attribute it to the roughness of the steel casing and the tightness of the P95 mag.

I recently put Williams Fire Sights on it, as I was having issue with sight picture using the stock sights. I love these sights. It gave me fully adjustable rear sight, so I could finally dial in the pistol properly (used to shoot low).
Of course, now it won't fit in the Don Hume leather holster I used to carry it with, so I'm shopping for a new holster.

FYI - I shoot bowling pins at 30feet every week for practice and competition.
