I HOPE this is the last time I see that place. It may not be as there is an "internal stitch(or some foreign object)"protruding from the incision that's going to require digging to resolve.
I've got to say, this has been one of the top ten worst choices I've made in my life and absolutely, without a doubt THE WORST health decision I've EVER made. I go to bed in pain, wake up in the middle of the night in pain, get up in the morning in pain---worse by 2 or 3 X than before the surgery.
Given what I've learned over the past 6 weeks, I'd have to be dragging my leg(s) behind me on a cart before I'd see this procedure as an improvement.
The suggestions of improvement certainly don't apply to anyone who lives in a world of stairs, ladders, farm equipment, or anything except concrete or paved surfaces. I firmly believe that I was given false expectations of the improvements I should expect and the time frame of getting back into my "normal activities".
I've got work to do and it appears I'm going to have to drag a Grandkid along to be remotely able to return to the work on my assignment list.
My advice: think long and hard and ask a LOT of questions specific to your individual lifestyle before making this decision. I thought I had covered all the bases but apparently even personal friends (who have different lifestyles) weren't able to give me the answers I needed.

I've been following all your comments with extreme interest. While I'm not having any issues,, Miss Penny sometimes complains about her hip & all occasionally. She's not bad off or anything,,, but I wonder to myself. Thinking ahead,, this is something to consider.

My wife is a manager at a very large ortho practice, I hear lots
of "stories".
Some Docs like to paint a "best case" picture to people, some
not so much. When you ask lay people, most like to be somewhat
positive and supporting, not too many will tell you you're a
dumb SOB for doing that.
I've never had my leg sawed off and reattached but have have
plenty of sports type injuries. I'd say give it closer to six months
not six weeks before regretting your choice. You made the
best one given the data you had to work with at the time. Too late
to second guess stuff.
Look for a GOOD physical therapist that will really work your butt and
then do it.....not half-assed like 95% of patients do. Really work on
your recovery, nobody else cares very much.....just you! All the
details count.
After six months, maybe a year, then you can be pi$$ed.
I'll send a bill for my consultation.

Sorry to hear about the slow recovery Mobuck. I had my left hip replaced just over 2 years ago and off all the orthopedic surgeries I have had, seven and still counting, it was the quickest recovery and brought about the most closest thing to a full restoration of any of the surgeries. I guess it is just another example of each of us being different and responding to procedures in a unique way.

Sorry I don't have the time to try to memorize your life situation. When you make a post like that with a long rant, you might at least inform the reader what the heck you're talking about.

In any case, I hope you get well and your situation improves.

Mobuck, it takes a year to recover. I’m 8 weeks out from right hip. Muscles are tender. I’m going to therapy, mostly for my girlfriend’s request. I walk and do yard work, go to shooting ranges. When hip gets tired, you have to rest it. This is a major surgery. You had your leg almost cut off and reattached.

It`s 3 1/2 months since I had mine done. It's been slow. I dont have much pain anymore, mostly if I ride over thirty miles. I still am on the stroller. It's like I am still afraid to take over a few steps without the walker. I am tall & heavy. I took a bad fall and broke my hip and tore out the ball & socket. I am 78. Not only that but I took another bad fall in the same spot a month later and really got banged up but didn't hurt the new hip and ball. I know I should be walking more than I am to heal faster. My situation is compounded more as I also have arthritis in my left ankle and it was giving out on me. I think it may have caused the falls as both times I was groggie and headed for the bathroom in the middle of the night. I have had more than my share accidents and injury`s through the years but I believe this to be at least the second worst of them.

IME, your body is simply rejecting the brand/type of sutures used.

After a surgery, at 10 different times my scar would dehisce (come apart) at one end, and spit out a single stitch (a little perfect circle with a teensier knot) to the surface - then the scar would "heal" until the next stitch surfaced.

It tuned out that my body is allergic to the "TYVEK" sutures used at the time.

.

My wife and I are cyborgs too. She has two artificial knees, one hip and soon one shoulder. So far I've only had one knee, the other one is still working okay with an occasional grease job.

They put me off with promises that things would improve over the next 6 weeks. I'm going nuts over the previous 6 weeks. Probably didn't help that I commented that I'd give $10,000 if I could go back to July 15 and say " NO, I changed my mind".
Dr put a weight limit on how much I should handle. I asked why they didn't tell me sooner and the reply was "We hadn't expected you to be so active so soon". This would have been nice to know last week when I was wrangling those 60# trailer wheels.
They did manage to dig out the remainder of the rotting(?) stitch that erupted from the incision last week.
Oh yeah, this was NOT the final visit---at least TWO more.

Mobuck I have hip pane your post is very helpful to me and I thank you!
Talked to a surgeon about repair- replace I think I'll pass for the time being!
My pain is not disabling or constant think I'll live with it as long as I can. Thanx.
BTW I know someone who has a similar situation as you his outcome left lots
to be desired! Take care and good luck. ps

I use quite a few words that are becoming offensive. Personally the people who are offended by those will just have to be offended. As far as I know being offensive isn't an offense.

"Wrangling 60# trailer wheels"

Five weeks after hip replacement surgery?

'Ya must be wanting to go back for a re do. Did ya meet a pretty nurse while there the first time ?

Give it time. The farm work will wait, if it won't, get some body. It won't get better, the hip or the pilled up chores iffin you don't give yourself some time to heal.
