In today's day people rely mainly on a friend or social media to make decisions.

I received the above quote in an email. It was from another parent at my daughter's school. I couldn't believe it, how someone can just so blindly make decisions. Perhaps this mother does, who knows. I don't.

It just baffles me how blind people are to the effects of their decisions. To just follow the crowd is absurd.

But ya know, thinking about it, I have bought guns only because y'all told me too. But that's different. :D

Well I ain't no durn sheeple but I use Facebook to keep watch on my Grandchildren. I bet if they knew gramps was watching they wouldn't post half that stuff either.

I use it to stay in touch with friends from my active duty military days. It has put me back in touch with some of those folks from way back when I was young.

Stupid is as stupid does. If you were to look up my FB page you wouldn't find a lot simply everything I post there is under private. The app is a good thing in the light of keeping track and touching base with people that would fall through the cracks otherwise.

When it starts being a substitute for society is when the danger lights ought to start flashing. When you start taking the opinions of words on the screen rather than your own... Get a life.

The best thing one can do, is avoid face***k and similar sites.

The reasons why are spread all over the Internet, no need to repeat here.

I've been involved with computers since the mid 1970s - I know better.

If I want to speak to someone I use this device called a telephone if I am too far away to see them in person. I do use email to contact some but only a rare few. Here we use PMs.

I suppose I'm more than a little "anti-social." I have no desire to post the minutia of my life, nor to read others' trivia and drivel. No Facebook or Twitter for me.

And it isn't just Facebook, it's the whole idea of people doing what they see and hear others doing. I know Facebook has a place keeping relatives close over long distances.

But the whole idea of what that woman wrote, is just so wrong. I don't know if she's a liberal or was just trying for some feel good smush. I do know there are quite a few people at school who probably agree with her. Sad, very sad.

My daughter's job includes working with many forms of social media but she has never signed up for Facebook. My wife and I want nothing to do with Facebook. People keep telling me I need to sign up for Facebook so I can see pics of their grandkids or pics of their vacation, etc. If they want me to see their pictures they can email them to me. I want nothing to do with Facebook.

Put me in the crowd that doesn't do Facebook, Twitter, or most forms of this "social media" stuff. I have an email account, and I go to a couple of Forums,,,, that's all. I try to actually get out & enjoy life,,,!

Me three. No Facebook, no Twitter, no need.

I do use Skype, which is most like a visual phone call, but only with family. Worked great when Annie was in China last year.

Well and Apple has this face time feature. If I call my wife we can have a video call. It's built into the phone and doesn't cost anything extra. Pretty nice. Like Skype but way more stable. In fact sweetie uses it to talk to her mom back in BG. So because of this she hardly ever uses Facebook. I don't at all.

:D THERE! I fixed your spelling. :D

DO agree that to blindly follow shows a total lack of thought.
GEE! Is that why we have the Head Narcissist In Charge?

I don't use Facebook or twitface or whatever the rest are called.
I had imaginary friends when I was a child. Then I grew up.
Wouldn't it be weird if your Facebook status reflected the quality of your real life?
Unfortunately I think that is how some people think it is.

A friend in England posts her photography on her facebook account and I am "Friended" on that account and usually go look (She is a great photographer), BUT she doesn't use it for anything else.
If we talk, we use Video Skype and usually spend 30 minutes to an hour chatting.
She is the one I identify as my "TWIN" because our likes, dislikes, tastes and thoughts run in Identical patterns and when we use to "MSN Message" would sometimes post the same exact same words at exactly the same time.

Nothing new here. Before computers and Facebook, I always got a chuckle out of kids giving each other advice on life and personal matters, things that they had zero experience in.

If you're going to start bashing social media and Facebook, then please describe to me how it has negatively impacted your life.
1) Head Narcissist In Charge
2) Many riots staged from "social media"
3) Perpetuates the "I'm not responsible, you are" approach
4) (extension of #3) YOU OWE ME!

All of those points are debatable. I could present a strong argument, but let's say you're right. Those are all personal impacts on your life? From social media? Sure you don't have other issues and just taking it out on Facebook?

This is rhetoric but the same question could apply to anyone giving such a general response.

This certainly not intended to be personal, just relatively tongue-in-cheek and designed to be thought provoking.

Facebook can certainly be enlightening. i got on just to keep track of my kids from my first marriage for one thing. Guess they don't want any part of me. Their loss. I also learned that one of my wife's brothers is a flaming liberal stumping for Sanders. Liberal hell, he's a bloody communist. I told my wife he is not welcome in our home. Wifey couldn't figure out why until I showed her the crap he posts on FB. Guess it does have it's uses. Have two grandsons in the military and keep up with their shenanigans as well. No different than lurking on some gun site you really don't want to join because of the attitudes of some.

It's of little interest to me if you do Facebook or not, but do consider this, RugerForums is Social Media as well. Just in a different format.

Hi,

Nah, just "non-social" as I tell family members. If they don't call, text or e-mail already, how is it that F-book's gonna suddenly change things? And the birds in the yard do a fine job of tweeting, so I'm not gonna try to compete with their schtick.

"The Boss" is on Facebook.... from what I've seen, it doesn't offer anything I can't do by e-mail. All I would need to do is send every e-mail to my entire list of contacts, and I would accomplish the same thing; however, I prefer to send an e-mail only to those concerned. For example, sending a message about a college reunion coming up this summer is of little interest to anyone except my college friends.
