Where's the earth-shattering kaboom? There was supposed to be an . . . oh, wait.

As Uncle observed: At least he kept all his fingers.

I have shot more than a sane persons share of 500 smith. No way this is real. The amount of recoil and blast would be insane if the gun let loose. No way your going to just stand there and follow through like your popping cans with a 22. The 500 smith operates at 60K psi. You not going to just neatly pop the barrel off and pop the cylinder loose. You will be dealing with shrapnel. No way would the top strap or cylinder be intact.

Unless it was a bore obstruction, which I believe, if it's real, is what it was. Light reloads, using jacketed bullets, squib followed by another -- boom, barrel gone.

I honestly don't know if this is real or not.. But I have seen this exact same thing on a Taurus revolver.. Blew the barrel several feet down range..

Funny how the video goes to s-l-o-w motion just as he is about to fire the gun. Something seems off. I would like to know more about this incident, like who shot it or where it happened or what the owner did about it. Is there any more info?

There's been some discussion on the S&W forum. The (incorrect) observation there was that the explosion happened AFTER the shot was fired -- until I pointed out the shift to slow-mo, which gave the impression of a delay.

I can understand he slow motion, that was done after the fact using some computer software. But it still looks fake. Really fake actually.

I saw the same video of the Taurus. Blew off the barrel...

Here is that crazy Taurus video. The frame cracked first and then the guy blew the barrel off form a safe distance.

That's not the right video Jimbo.. Although, your video is a good one as well.

This is the right video to which I'm referring.

I've always said, if you don't kill the bad guy with the first shot on a Taurus, you can at least knock him out with the barrel..

Now, by comparison.. Here is why I say, that the GP-100 is probably the best revolver ever made.. In the next video, a 4" GP-100 had .357 magnums loaded into it. There was a squib load that came from the factory.. The second shot should have blown the gun to pieces. And it would have, had it been any other gun.. But the GP-100 just bulged the barrel slightly, but did not blow.. A testament to the quality of a Ruger firearm.

For the record, I've seen this in real life as well. Only with a 6" Stainless.. So I have seen it with my own eyes.. This will sell anyone on the durability of the GP-100. Had it been any other gun, what injury would the shooter have gone to the hospital with? The shooter in this video, suffered none thankfully..

In closing, I would like to say, that it is my firm belief, that there is no finer revolver on the market than a Ruger.. They are overbuilt tanks. And when you have to trust your life to a gun, I'll put my life in the hands of a Ruger any day.. If you do your part, the gun will certainly do it's part.. This holds true for any Revolver Ruger makes in my humble opinion..

Here's a video of the greatest handguns in the world.. I'm not so sure about the "broom handle" though.. It was a lousy gun in my opinion. Although, groundbreaking at the time with it's revolutionary design..

I am surprised however, they didn't include any Rugers in the video.. Still, it's an interesting video..

No slight to the Ruger intended, but having seen the results of squib-followed-by-live-round on Rugers, S&Ws, Colts, Taurus's, even a lowly Rossi, I can attest that a barrel bulge is the usual outcome, with total destruction of the gun being comparatively rare.

Although touted partially as a strength enhancement of the frame/barrel interface, I remain skeptical of the S&W 2-piece barrel arrangement.
