Everything old becomes new again

This morning I had more time on my hands than usual, and that says a lot for an old retired guy like myself. I was checking out the many forums that I participate in, and felt like I was in a time warp. Among the threads I noticed were "If you could have just one gun, what would it be?"; "45acp vs 9mm, which is better?"; "Is Harley better than Indian?"; "Should I carry with one in the chamber?"; "Is a semi auto better than a revolver?", and "How can I tell if a Democrat is lying?". Okay, that last one was made up, but the others, in those words or something similar, seem never to go away. I guess there is always a group of new participants into the forums, so the age old questions keep getting asked, and/or the internet trolls just love to annoy the crap out of the regulars.

What's a Harley?

I don't know.... but I know what an Indian is - they were the guys that were always fighting with the Cavalry in the old west.

.....and that is why Ruger came out with the mark IV because so few of you "old folks" did not take the time to tell or show the new , as well as, younger people "how" the MK I, II or III worked......... 8)

So let's see, we're up to the Mark IV. And not a single darned "improvement" on the Mark I yet. Can't figure it out.

Little dishes on the sides of the receiver to make it "easier" to pull back the bolt. Never found it hard to do.

Moving the magazine release. It ain't a combat gun, you don't need rapid magazine changes.

Auto bolt hold open. Gee, I can count that high without my fingers.

Now, simplified field stripping. Never did find it difficult or complex, or confusing. Then again, I was born at a time you were expected to be able to figure things out and fix things.

What's next, a Mark V that you throw away when it's empty and go buy another one with a full magazine?

Yeah . . . apparently it's unreasonable to expect them to READ THE FRIGGIN' MANUAL!

Many simply can't read. They have grown up on video and the written word is a thing to fear.

We (or me) read and learned all this stuff over sixty years ago. It`s all rehash for us that are older. I have had Harley`s, (3) the last one was a 69 and 58 Royal Enfield made for Indian with the Indian name on it.
I consider myself a revolver guy, do have a couple auto`s but am far heavier with revolvers. I never carried a auto on my job but carried revolvers for over 35 years. I am THAT old. Retired over 17 years now. The kids have to learn for themselves.
Once my daughter asked me if we had color TV when I was a kid. I said, Hon we didn't even have a black and white when I was a kid. Well, not until I was 13/14 anyway until dad broke down and bought a old used black and white one.
I recall watching a boxing match with close to a dozen people in a neighbors house that had a TV and the rest of us didn't. Kinda miss some of those days.

Yep, you actually knew your neighbors back then. Today even "if" you see one, they have their heads in their phones ignoring the world around them.
