Enough of the name calling!

This name calling, mainly in the Politics forum, is getting ridiculous. VI, Village Idiot, Dumbo, jimbidiot, DixieChick, A-holo---I was once called that and actually thought it was pretty funny :lol: That name caller's no longer with us...

I'm going to start editing out all of this name calling, so if you see this "EDIT" where you did it, it was me. I won't do it too many times before I send you a PM. You don't want a PM. There's no reason whatsoever to address a Forum member by anything other than his/her username.

This Forum is a place to relax. Let it get heated at times! I don't see it as a place to sling childish school yard names...

I agree entirely. I have no problem with members using snide comments and names for public officials who put themselves into the spotlight nationwide, but can we at least use some sense of courtesy in addressing members here by the IDs they use? It has, at times, gotten to the point of just plain stupidity with the cutesy(not really cute at all) names being used for other members. If you have to use some snide, insulting play on another member's name then you have just lost whatever point you may have gained by being right on an issue you were commenting on by insulting them.

I agree, most of the names I see are rarely aimed at other form members, I think censorship, being easily offended and PC is for liberals.

This forum is very small as it is I think the Political section is one thing that keeps it alive, this place would be a ghost town without it, people come here to vent and share their frustration with like minded other gun owners where else can you do that?

I think the members here do a good job of not letting things get to out of hand most of the time.

Several years ago, I was on a board where this guy called me everything but a white boy.
I answered his post by saying he shouldn't say things like that to anyone... and I also told him that I'd bet he wouldn't say that to my face!
Well, he posted back that he would say it to my face!
I told him to give me his address, that I could be in Chattanooga in less than an hour
... never got a reply.
We didn't give our location on the board... but he forgot that he told someone on the board where he lived a year earlier... and I remembered. :mrgreen:

Those names ya listed in the first post.....not nice, but as I moderated a site before, Doubt I would edit those.

As I was around before and followed this site from Day 1....
There was a period on this site , WAY early history....that moderators...blocked,dumped,members that argued with the staff's opinions.
{I was one of them dumped :wink: }


But,and again, JMHO,....Guys that use those name calling....At least ,when I see those happen,
Tells me...what ever argument they about to spew out,take with a grain of salt....consider diluted, cause instead
of facts, they try to make their point with cheap insults.

I personally would not edit them, but let them expose who they really are.

of this is to get a point across get the attention of a poster who supports the destruction of what most

PM for name calling, OK no problem, as long as MODS get the threatening PMs also we all know there are,
MODs, that may be as big an offender as anyone setting the example. That is my only point, crap flows downhill.

Though I am not one of the big contributors to the Gun Control section I do, on occasion post and visit there. It seems that lately there have been more 'personal' attacks and name calling then when I first arrived here a few years ago. I feel that some constraint would be appropriate.

It seems to me that when you resort to name calling that you've lost the argument or at least cheapened it. Remember, nobody is forcing you to go to the gun control section.

I get a lot of information from the "Political Section" and would not like to see it go. I do agree the name calling is getting a little out of hand right now, but there are a few individuals that seem to stir it up and then enjoy the squabble. Too bad.

If you don't like that forum, feel free to not go there. Simple. Don't try to censor everyone else.

Thanks for stepping up to take care of this Cholo. In my opinion it has been an issue for a while. If you can not address a person without calling them a name, you are being childish and have no ability to function in normal, civilized society. It's that simple. As already stated as well, resorting to personal attacks is also the white flag of defeat. It's a giant banner for all to see that your argument is weak and you have little left to say. I tend to think highly of many of the regular posters here and think that they have the ability to rise above this.

As an aside - when I post from my phone my autocorrect always tries to change Jimbo to Jumbo, so maybe I should invest in a new phone that isn't so childish.

I wonder if you think talking about the positive side of ACA or the negative side of global warming is Trolling? Often there are sides to a topic that some people don't want to hear about.

It is encouraging that someone is willing to address this name calling problem. While many here say they don't like the name calling and personal insults there are very few willing to say anything about it to those that do it. I am looking forward to a better political forum.

I haven't read this thread much at all I wanted to just point out something that I feel about that sub-forum. There are some of the dumbest arguments ever there sometimes. There are known members that come close to total disdain for each other, there are thread subjects based on hearsay and absolute bullcrap taken from the internet and a 5 page argument about it's merits.

...but I have seen absolutely brilliant points made on that forum and articles linked that were either heart lifting or just so sad and true as to almost make a grown man cry. Sometimes good change comes from discourse. The sub-forum will probably never change the world but it is nice to see that there are many on this forum that can present a point, back it up and maybe change some minds for the better. We have some real good writers on this forum and the ones that can swing their tactics, talking points or veracity are some of the best.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to cut some onions, I'm such an emotional guy.
