Just put this gun on lay a way.

http://www.ruger.com/products/sp101DE/models.html

However, the one I am buying does not have the wood inserts. It has the normal black plastic inserts. I wonder if there where two models, or they messed up on this one.

I'm thinking that along it's path, a previous owner or a dishonest dealer swapped them out.

I also believe someone swapped them out. I own one of these engraved SP's, and when I ordered it, there was only one option...WITH THE NICE GRIP PANELS.

If the seller has no way to immediately make it right, then cancel the order, and order a new one. Unless, of course, this is a used model, for a really good price.

WAYNO.

Nice gun, Talo exclusive, and they only came with the Altamont grip panels. The dealer or someone else swapped the grip panels out.
Good price? 8) 8)

...Jimbo

Well, the dealer is the guy I work for. I work there. I was there when he got the gun in. It came with the plastic inserts. I got it for $125 more than what a new plain Jane Sp101 sells for. Figured that was a fair amount to pay for all that extra chicken scratch.

Just checked out Talos website, and the wood grip inserts they show on the SP101 are different than Rugers website. Now I am really confused.

The pic on TALO's site is, I believe, of a pre-production model so the grip panels are plain on that one. They should all have the Altamont engraved ones.

If it arrived at the dealer with plastic, thenc all ruger customer service and they will send you the proper set of panels.

That is what I am gonna do. Or, I am gonna have the boss do it.

I really wish they would sell those grip panels separately...would love to have a pair.

Good luck with your purchase! One of my favorite guns...
