Ejector Rod on type I FT BH

I need advise on when the ejector rod went from round to
Beveled on the type I BH 357; was it a transitional phase in or quick change?

Four digit serial numbers and one three digit,

Parts changes are always transitional because the guns are not built in order of serial# or shipped in order either.

Most type Is had the flat serrated knob in the #1 to #7309 and 14684 to 15483 serial ranges. One and two digit #s can have the round concave (dimpled) knob because they shipped much later, and also more prevalent in the 6266 to 7240 range. Concave knob used on Type IIs serial ranges 7407 to 9521, 9304 to 18963, and intermittently up to 23166. Flat faced round knobs began after 18963 and predominate after that.

I think the OP was referring to the rod itself, not the rod head.

If I remember correctly, all my .44s and .45 have the round rod, while my .357s have the flattened rod. I believe the intent was to provide more clearence in the smaller chambers. As to when each came into use, I have no idea.

Bob: You were on the money regarding my question. I was concerned about the rod itself, not the thumb piece.

I have OM FT 44 mag with beveled Rod and round also. 357 always with beveled.

If my original question was not clear. I apologize for any confusion.

I always thought they made the change to the "beveled" rod when they came out with the 30 carbine, and found the half round rods "hit" the edge of the cylinder throat upon ejecting, so would be around 1968 ???? one of them "Old Ruger lore" stories we heard and it always stuck, ( sounded reasonable to us) :roll:

otherwise its the "parts bin theory" and all the guys swapping parts over the years.... :wink:

same held true of the buttons, why , and why not, they did not work, or were easier and cheaper to make. 8)
