ejector housing

I have a fairly new NM Blackhawk in 41 cal. The screw that secures the ejector housing stripped out. I sent it back to Ruger and as usual they fixed it and sent it right back.
My concern is that they said they just cleaned up the threads and installed a new screw. Those threads are so tiny and already having once stripped out what do you think the chances of them holding for any length of time?
The only good thing is that you don't often have to remove the housing.
Have anyone else had this problem and was there any repeat after it was repaired?

If the threads were actually stripped out of the barrel, I kinda doubt the "repair" is adequate. If the screw was stripped, it should be OK.

Thanks Hawkeye. Kinda my thinking as well. There was no doubt the threads were damaged in the gun. I thought they would silver solder or something similar but the guy at Ruger when I expressed my doubt said, “it’s our normal repair and we SELDOM have one returned.”
I said, SELDOM, if they are returned even one wouldn’t that be cause for a different more permanent fix.
Bottom line, we will see.
I just wondered if others have had this problem.

It's not uncommon to have this happen on the "tapped barrel" versions. It's one of the reasons Ruger went to the "lug attachment" on the larger calibers. Another reason is that on the bigger bores the barrel wall is thinner, not leaving much material to drill & tap.

Hopefully they used a good thread locker when they installed that new screw.

Yes he did say they used some kind of lactate on it. So now we wait and see. I do shoot this one quite a bit but don't usually remove the housing even for a good cleaning so it should last the rest of my days.

That's "Loctite" . . . a brand name for thread locker.

Yeah, removal of the entire ejector group really isn't necessary just for cleaning. Considering the perhaps questionable "fix" I believe I'd just leave it alone.

If you ever do have it removed and can pull the base pin out, grinding about half the exposed end of the base pin off will usually leave it just short enough to totally remove without removing the ejector bits. It will also, perhaps, make it a little more difficult to pull the base pin out. Your choice.

{Grind the front end, not the rear end with the little plunger/pin on it)

Unclefudd, Welcome to the Forum, you should be OK, seen a few go back over the years, and they been doing it the same way for ALL these years....all too often we see folks who repeatedly go over and over the screws in any given gun, , take 'em out, put 'em in, no need to take it all apart for a simple cleaning...and do NOT be in a hurry to re-install, possibly cross thread, or over tighten or whatever.......when the threads are cleaned, ( degreased) and a drop of "Loctite, even a drop of nail polish , and let the screw dry, and you're good to go.........

What you will find on all Magnum’s is loose screws. My .41 will loosen screws. .44’s for sure! Keep extra parts, use blue loctite. I have a 1976 SBH that soldered plug came out Shoots so good, I left ERC off
