Eclectic .45 Colt Loading Data

Does anyone know of a currently available loading manual with loads for cast bullets over 255 grs (and up to 330 grs) in .45 Colt? I was shocked when my 49th Lyman loading manual stopped at 255 grs.

Your help is very much appreciated.

I like 335 gr cast LBT over 19gr of IMR 4227, makes right at 1000fps out of my 7 1/2" Bisley without bruising my hand too bad and shoots really well at 150yds in a 20" lever carbine. The nice thing about the 454 Rossi I had was it would cycle the long nose 45 Colt LBT rounds really well and shoot them very accurate as fast as you could work the lever.

I also use a heavy charge of 4227 with my home cast 320 gr loads in .45 Colt. Shoots great in my short and long barreled blackhawks. I was interested to see Don Lovel's similiar load.
I push mine a little harder, up to 1300 fps. My load is definitely not for the smaller "medium" frames.

I use Oregon Trail cast bullets. They have they're own loading manual specifically for their bullets. I've found it an excellent source for loads. Its available from their website.

It is almost like 4227 was made just for heavy cast bullets in the .45 Colt. All other uses are just frosting on the cake.

For heavy .45 Colt loads I prefer H110/296.

Can you even shoot a 330gr. cast slug out of a Colt or Colt copy using any powder?

My book Modern Reloading 2nd edition by Richard Lee has heavy cast loads for the 44 but not the 45.

He was asking about load data with heavy bullets (over 250 grains). You are right as we can't really assume, however, this is the Ruger revolver forum.

What he said!!! I have the last 20 years of Handloader magazines in my closet. Just about every load in those pages is on loaddata.com and much, much more. The heaviest "Ruger only" 45 colt loads from handloader consist of Oregon Trail TrueShot 360 grain LBT style WFN gc bullets Going right at 1300fps. This is from a 5.5" Ruger Bisley. In the article, Brian Pierce said he got terrific long range accuracy. With performance like this, who really neads to spend the money on, and endure the recoil and blast of a 454. I don't think anything in North America could tell the difference.
