Just curious. I have been accumulating Rugers on and off since the early 70's. Mostly old single actions. I hunted a lot and did some guiding in the 80's (Southern Colorado) and always carried my 200th year M77. Had several and Loved them. All this time around gun shows and gun auction sites I have yet to see a non prefix Model 77. According to Ruger Serial numbers there should be several thousand. Anybody shed any light on those early ones? Has Chad wrote about them? I would be very interested in one.

I've kinda got a thing for 1st year production models. Probably will hold onto it for a while, but retirement is looming so might not be too long!

They show up from time to time. Just gotta watch the auction sites.
They are most common in the "R" model in .243 and .308. After that they get pretty scarce.
