Early 77 value (three digit ser#)

I have an older friend, 91 years old, preparing to sell some of his firearms. One is a Ruger Model 77 in 243 with a serial number in the 130's no prefix. He only recently scoped it and sighted it in then put it back in the safe, for years it sat unfired. Excellent condition rifle with the box and packaging including his original receipt. Any idea of value? Thanks.

That kind of rifle would be collectable, its hard to say what its worth. Kinda depends on what a collecter is willing to pay.

The condition is going to probably determine the value. If the bore is like new it will be worth quite a bit more IMHO. Possibly worth at least a grand.

The .308Win and the .243Win are the most common chamberings in the early rifles. 70 prefix rifles in those chamberings are selling for $500-550 on gunbroker; higher priced ones are going unsold. Four digit rifles are selling for a $100 or so more. Three digit rifles are a different matter. They get vigorous bidding and are selling around $1000. It seems that the lower the serial number the higher they go.

As Blackeagle said, condition has to be there, to garner those prices.

If the rifle has factory iron sights, add $200.

I think an auction is the best option. Prices quoted seem reasonable to what I was thinking. If he wants to I'll get some photos and post it next week. Thanks for the info.
