I am really beginning to wonder who writes headlines these days. Usually I give them a pass because they're trying to be short and concise. College education fools who can’t write or comprehend.

This one is longer for no reason.

Annual natural gas bill going up by 10%.

Wow! 10% annually? How much is it going up monthly? Oh wait it’s still 10%.

One reason to use percentages is so the time duration doesn’t matter.

Commercials are just as bad. A local eye surgery commercial on the radio has a lady stating it was the best surgery she ever had.

Well …. If they reported that the increase was 10% a month, many would argue that’s 120% annually.

if annual bill is $1200 ,monthly would be $100 . 10% = $10 x 12 months =$120
still 10% ?

I don’t read newspapers anymore, but the local weather station guys have got me wound up over their constant use of the phrases across the board, and ending sentences with “ as well”, (counted last night he said that seven times during this weather forecast) or starting a sentence with “as I said”.
