Drivers: Watch out for motorcycles.

Speaking of RR tracks. I watched a sport bike rider blow through a red light followed by a Chippy. The Chippy was riding pretty safely other than speed because he knew what was ahead. 1/2 mile ahead was a RR crossing. Three sets of tracks.

By the time the light changed and I got there the Chippy was handcuffing the motorcyclist. Probably not necessary considering how far the biker slid along the pavement.

The biker had a helmet when he went by. It was no where to be seen afterwards. It must have come off somewhere in his E ticket ride down the pavement.
in another life, while posted at a "lonely" site, hiway patrol dropped by to see if i'd got scared and run home (it does happen) and pointed out a moderate speeder who saw the reflective paint on his patrolcar and slowed down; we may not catch them on the straights, unless they lose a tire or a motor, but we always make up good time on the curves.

I witnesses my first motorcycle fatality when I was 20 in 1969. I was going to IC "A" school at Great lakes Naval Training Center north of Chicago. On Friday afternoon I caught the bus to Chicago. I was sitting in the front passenger seat the bus was heading south on Rt 41 doing about 60 MPH. A motorcycle passed us doing at least 80 MPH. RT 41 is 4-lanes wide with roads crossing it. About a quarter of a mile ahead of us a Big ole Lincoln pulled out of one of the cross streets right in front of the motorcycle. The bike hit just where the front fender meets the driver's door. The bike went halfway through the car. The driver went over the hood and skidded and bounced down the road for a good 100 yards. His helmet wore through very quickly. Since the bus driver and I saw it happen we had to give statements to the police. I overheard the woman driver being questioned. The cop asked her, " Didn't you see the motorcycle coming?" She replied, " I did, but, I didn't think it would do much damage."

Before that I had friends with motorcycles and I would ride with them. After that I kind of lost interest in riding.
