Especially this biker gang of idiots. "Sons of Anarchy?" More like sons (and daughters) of retardation.



Not sure what that one guy at the end was doing. "JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL, TAKE IT FROM MY HAAAAAANNNNDDDSSS !!!" That generally doesn't work behind an actual wheel, let alone handlebars at freeway speeds . . .
 
There are 2 kinds of motorcycle accidents. This mess was the riders fault. Driver inattention is deadly to motorcycle riders. This year there are many more accidents than in the past.
My son was killed by a texting driver who hit his motorcycle head on. He was in a coma for 10 months and by time the lawyers got done we got practically nothing.

Driver inattention is the worst.

I had a friend killed on his motorcycle a couple of years ago. He was coming out of a town and just where the speed limit went from 35 to 55 the car ahead of him was accelerating and then hit its brakes and came to an unexpected stop just in front of him. He managed to stop but the mini-van behind him never even slowed. The driver of the van had just turned her head to yell at the kids in the back and never saw him stop. The driver ahead of him had stopped because he and his wife wanted to look at the dead deer on the side of the road.

Keystone children riding bikes way beyond their skills, bound to happen. Hopefully they're all ok and learned a valuable lesson.

Had a buddy( RIP James) killed down in Daytona Bike week about 5 years ago and his brother in Ga lost his leg on his Ducati soon after.
I myself gave up two wheels years ago.

That's the usual end result of sport bikes and lane splitting. Lane splitting is legal in a few states. It's still dangerous, even if allowed.
Some idiot did that to me in Dallas last week. Not sure if it’s legal in Texas or not.

Two weeks ago, two motorcycles passed us on the shoulder during a construction slowdown. Now that is definitely illegal.

They don’t give motorcyclists a good reputation at all.
 
That reminds me of one time we were heading home on I80 leaving Iowa City and it happened to be right as a college football game had ended. Both lanes of the interstate were full and we were running around 65-70mph and some guy on a crotch rocket was splitting the lanes and running at least 20mph or more faster than the traffic. I guess he felt safe that no one would be changing lanes and law enforcement wouldn't be able to stop him. 😵
 
A friend of mine was hauling frozen food and a crotch rocket was splitting lanes in a traffic jam. The rider was a big fat dude and about 3 vehicles ahead of my friend there was a stake truck with a bolt protruding from the side of the bed. Motorcycle dummy hits it at probably 60mph and rips the whole side of his thigh.... I don't know the full outcome but they had a hard time trying to get an ambulance to the idiot.
 
I rode motorcycles for over 40 years and fortunately never had a serious accident, and I'm kind of ashamed to say most of that time was without a helmet. The last half of the 40 my wife was with me most of the time. It finally got where she couldn't ride with me due to back surgeries and age made me think and worry about possible things that could happen that I used to not even think about. On a motorcycle you have to feel confident, if you don't it's a problem. I finally decided to quit while I was still ahead. It's funny, I don't miss riding so much but I do miss having my bike in the garage that I could tinker with and appreciate. If I had the money I would still have one just for that purpose.

Yeah Minnesota just made it legal to do lane splitting as a "safety measure" for us bikers.
 
Eons ago I responded to several motorcycle versus car/pickup/big rig accidents. A few were caused when a motor cycle splitting lanes collided with a vehicle changing lanes. Most of these occurred near the D St off ramp from the I-15 in Victorville. There was a lane reduction loosing the far right lane. So vehicles just naturally shifted to the lane to the left. And in every one of these accidents the motor cycle never won. Add to that the motorcycles were usually traveling well above the posted 65 mph.

Flash forward to a couple of years ago and I watched a classic VW Bug move to the left from the number 2 lane to the number 1 lane. The bug driver didn't see the bike splitting lanes and the rear bumper of the car clipped the front wheel of the bike. instead of a nice simple slide down the pavement, the bike rolled over a few times. An experienced rider might have faired better. But the rider was a novice who grabbed hold of the handle bars and held on for dear life. He stayed with the bike for a couple of times around. It wasn't pretty. If he's still riding I'm pretty sure he learned to let go and get as far away from the bike as possible when (not if) you go down.
 
I've never done the lane splitting thing. My bike is not a sport bike and takes a lot more space. Living in a rural area also contributes to my lack of need for this.
I could see in an area of long road congestion that splitting could make sense, but man, I don't think I'd be inclined.
 
In Utah, motorcycle lane splitting is legal on roads with a speed limit of 45 mph or less, where traffic is stopped, and when the motorcycle is traveling at 15 mph or less. Lane splitting is not permitted on freeways or on/off ramps.

Driving home on I-80 from Park City last weekend, there were two bullet bikes flying down the canyon at speeds that had to be 90+. Watched them splitting lanes, cutting off vehicles, weaving from lane 1 to lane 3 and back. For reference:

Lane splitting never seemed like a smart thing to do. It is just an accident waiting to happen. There is just one rule you need to remember when riding. The bike rider never and I mean never wins when it comes to an accident with a car or truck. So my head is always on a swivel when I ride. I am a very defensive driver when on my bike. As I get older (69) I know that I don’t bounce as well or heal as fast as I use too in my younger days.
 
The legal kind of lane splitting, i.e., when traffic is stopped or almost stopped and the motorcycle SLOWLY is moving between full lanes of cars, makes some sense and probably helps avoid rear end collisions of motorcycles by inattentive car drivers. But that type of lane splitting is not seen as exciting or fun by the young sports bike riders who clearly are enjoying the high speed lane changes and close calls. I've been a rider for over 40 years and have no sympathy for such irresponsible riders.

I'm on 3 wheels now, so lane splitting is not even a possibility. The configuration of what I ride, with two wheels in front, presents a larger profile to oncoming cars and I have yet to have someone unexpectedly turn left in front of me, something that happens all to often when riding two wheels and a major type of accident for motorcyclists. I also have a "Brake Free" device on the back of my helmet which has a sensor making the device brightly light up as I slow down, so that engine braking does not catch motorists behind me by surprise.

I try to be as situationally aware as I can when riding, and I have no plans on giving it up anytime soon. I'm 82, and when I am on my Spyder is about the only time in my life where I feel more like 42. Riding is a key part of my life and of who I am. If and when I have to stop riding I am afraid that this will mean almost more than I can handle in terms of the loss of quality of life. My hero is the Italian rider whose video on YouTube went viral where at 92 he was still riding a sport bike every day and when the bike is seen pulling over after a ride, in helmet and full leathers, and you only realize that the rider is really old when he takes off his helmet.
 
To each his own, but I personally would never ride a motorcycle. I've seen way too many accidents that, had it been two cars colliding instead of a car and a motorcycle, would have resulted in a bit of body damage (to the cars) instead of serious or fatal injuries to the bike rider. And then there's the idiots on their crotch rockets that think doing triple-digit speeds on the highway and splitting lanes is a good idea.

In utaw it aint lane splitting, its "lane filtering" and SO many cant even do it right.
 
YIKES ! I had some dufus on a bike pass me on the inside doing ludicrous speed as I was making a right hand turn. Then blew the next stop sign doing well over 100mph in a posted 30mph zone and he or she was gone. At the end of the street there is a set of RR tracks at the start of a sweeping left turn with loading docks on both sides of the street. people misjudge that corner and crash into the docks all the time, this person made the turn.
 
As a motorcycle rider myself I always look out for others. Unfortunately though a lot of my fellow motorcycle riders don't look out for cars. It's a two way responsibility BOTH sides should be taking care.
 
Speaking of RR tracks. I watched a sport bike rider blow through a red light followed by a Chippy. The Chippy was riding pretty safely other than speed because he knew what was ahead. 1/2 mile ahead was a RR crossing. Three sets of tracks.

By the time the light changed and I got there the Chippy was handcuffing the motorcyclist. Probably not necessary considering how far the biker slid along the pavement.

The biker had a helmet when he went by. It was no where to be seen afterwards. It must have come off somewhere in his E ticket ride down the pavement.
