Driver using a cell phone.

Sure we’ve all seen people texting or surfing on they’re phone while driving, but I saw a new one today. I was on a construction site where they were putting down asphalt on a road and the guy on the roller appeared to be surfing on his phone. Every few seconds he would look up then continue with his phone. Sure he was only moving a mile or two an hour, but I got a chuckle out of it. Remember when people lived and worked without a device in their hand. I count myself included in the device in hand crowd, but I try to keep it reasonable.

I carry my cell phone with me whenever I'm out. I keep it in my shirt pocket and turned off. It quit ringing about a year ago and I considered buying a new one, but then realized what an advantage that was, so I haven't replace it yet. It will vibrate when I get a call if turned on. But nobody knows my number except my wife.

We still have a land line and an answering machine, so we don't really miss out on calls. to economize, I did drop my long distance carrier on my home telephone. So any long distance calls are made on our cell pones. Also use land line for 800 numbers, which are free, whereas I would be charged if I used my cellphone.

You know, every cell phone within 100 yards goes blank. YES I understand that
could be a problem in an emergency, but compared to the number of idiots that
text/talk while driving, I think it would save lives.

EVEN BETTER SUGGESTION: If you are going more than five mph, AND not
calling/in-contact-with 911, it goes blank.

In fact, I like the latter solution FAR better. . .

I can always tell if the guy in front of me at a light is on their phone. The light turns green and they are sitting there till I honk.

Several years ago I was stopped at a red light. Guy in another pickup pulls up next to me. I inched forward and he sensed the movement while he was texting and jumped the red light, and drove through the intersection. Fortunately for him it was a Sunday morning and no cross traffic! But I think it was amazing to watch!

My cell stays on even when I'm driving but is in the cup holder. I have Bluetooth so if I receive a call I can answer it without taking my eyes off the road. If I don't care to answer I don't. It only comes out of the holder when I leave the car.

It's a sickness. The other day I saw this woman talking on one phone and texting on another. Obviously, the phones are smarter than than the users.

I have UConnect on my car radio but I only answer calls from numbers I have programmed in my phone book and don't originate any calls unless absolutely necessary.

My truck has been rear ended 4 times by idiots playing on their cell phones. That is why my hitch is still in the reciever even though I don’t own a trailer anymore. 0 damage to my truck and a lot of damage to the offending vehicles.

I got crashed into by a woman on a cell phone while I was stopped in traffic it messed me up pretty bad.

Cell phone gun shy now-I hate seeing the mostly young idiots on their GD phones come up behind me in traffic- seems like every one is doing it. I would rather someone have three beers and then drive- than be behind me moving on a #$%^&*! cell phone. They should have their GD phones smashed on the spot if caught- imo.

I have noticed that many of the new era youngsters walking around with their mugs planted in a "device" have a flat, emotionless, dead type look on their face- often with the phone stuck in their mugs or not. Seem to be a humorless bunch of zombies as well.

When I'm out shopping or something my cell phone stays in my car. No one needs to know where I am at every second. It's for any emergency "I" may have.

My favorite has been tapping on my horn to let the driver in front know the light has turned green, and having the driver motion to me to wait while he finishes his texting. I suppose at least he wasn’t moving while being so distracted.

There's been an out-of-state crew laying a new fiber optic cable for the last 3 months. If any of those guys isn't actively using a hand tool, his phone is in his hand. If it was my crew, that would cease simply because of safety issues. A delivery driver commented last week that he almost hit one of the workers who walked into the highway w/o looking because he was playing with his phone on the worksite.
I'm required to have my phone on my person due to my work status. I use a hands free device to talk which is also a job related requirement. Texting and dialing demands I stop what I'm doing and usually change glasses to accomplish. Heck, I met a state trooper driving with his phone in front of his face a while back.

Had my Jeep totaled last year by a young woman pulling out of a Wawa store parking lot, looking intently down at her phone. We saw her clearly. Steady oncoming traffic, so there was nothing to do but take the hit. Hit on our passenger side, wife spent the next 8 hours at the hospital. Badly bruised rt. arm, shoulder and chest. Grateful it wasn't worse.

I will not touch my phone while driving, no matter how many texts or calls I get. There's nothing so urgent that can't wait until I reach my destination. And no, I don't want any Bluetooth, ear buds or any other "hands-free" distractions.

They've got a law against it here. But I've never heard of it being enforced. So, really no law. Heck I've seen cops driving down the street on their phones.

After almost getting rear ended at slow speed by an idiot on a phone I bought one of these and painted it bright red. At slow speed it should protect my bumper while destroying theirs.

We have a law against it here too. ("Click it or Ticket") My ex got caught on hers. $125.00 fine (first offense. Goes up incrementanly for each additional offense) and had to take a class. She should have listened to me. :wink: I still see some that just can't seem to grasp the danger they present, to themselves, as well as to the rest of us, though
