That was a donut. Smoking tires in a circle. I went to a car cruise tonight. Big Boy hamburger joint. I did a burnout thru second gear when I left. I had a four lane highway 40 to myself.

As a kid, I never did "donuts" or "burn outs". I'd still be walking if Dad had caught me or found out about such a stunt. The car I drove had the capability (1970 Chevelle with a factory 300HP 350CI) but I just never saw the logic.
Now, I've done my share a crazy stuff on slick roads just for the H of it and scared the crap out of passengers and other drivers.

Burnouts,, burning donuts etc used to be much more common among younger car buffs. I, like Mobuck never felt the need to do it,, in the way most my age did. But I'd occasionally let my youthful attitude allow me to "bark" the tires a bit. Oh, the car,, a 1970 SS Chevelle, 396 Turbo Hydramatic, with Cowl Induction. I always felt the tires cost too much to burn off the skins.

Snow and an empty parking lot is easier on the tires. That’s the way we used to do them. Front wheel drive cars you have to go backwards though.

Years ago I used to attend the car shows at Carlisle,PA. They had a burnout competition one afternoon at each years show. Cars would simply disappear in the smoke.

I’m with you about not wasting rubber, but a little chirp as you hit second was good for the soul on occasion.

That's no Burnout!

Squealing tires and a bunch of smoke with the smell of burning rubber equals a burnout
and the black rubber on the pavement for evidence!
I grew up in snow country that is for sissies! Had a couple of cars that would do fantastic burnouts!
My friend had a garage changing tires was no problem.
Get used tires at Burpee's Junk yard, George always had used tires for us cheap!
We'd smoke the bad boys off the rims! ps

Probably because when I was a young man and stupid (sorry, I'm being redundant) I never had a car that would do that... but I see this as just about as dumb as shooting full auto guns... both are pretty much a waste .... waste of good tires and waste of good ammo... of course unless you are in a situation where you absolutely need to do either.

I saw on the news they identified the guy. Didn’t hear if arrested or anything. From the video it looked like a backup on the westbound span and he may have been at the end of it before they diverted traffic to the other bridge.

I have noticed burn outs and doughnuts in my area in extreme. My theory is that due to covid 19, these kids are bored with nothing better to do.

Nope. My donut and burnout days are behind me. Haven't been to a strip in years.

Apparently more people like to jump off the Bay Bridge than burn donuts on it. About one month or so try to take their lives. A recent jumper had the bridge closed for a day. He was eventually talked down. The local news seldom reports the jumps or attempts trying not to encourage it.
