Well Ruger saved me a hospital trip maybe even my life. He has never bitten me beside playing but today while walking the lake as we always do he became pretty aggressive nipping at me then wrapped my leg and his dew claws really dig in I turned to scold him and he ran around me like trying to avoid me. I turned to grab him and he had a copper head backed against a log and he tried to k.i.l.l him till I got a stick to finish him off. Literally almost filled my eyes with tears knowing he risked his life to save me. I literally sat down with him and held him. This guy is by far my guardian. Best dog ever award goes to this guy. Rather have this cut that the bite from that copperhead any day. Thankful for my best friend.

Mans best Friend for sure...My Brother's secretary got nailed by a full grown copperhead on the forearm while in her garden. 3 months and $38,000.00 dollars later she is just now getting back to normal. She is 60 years old, and we could not believe the sight of what her arm looked like for weeks.

One of the best things about my job is going to peoples houses and meeting their dogs... I'm not making this up or exaggerating.. Just about every dog I meet is worth making them a friend ..... went to a house today the the guy opened the door and had the dog held back and it was growling at me.... 30 seconds later I'm sitting on the hearth of the fireplace and the dog is licking me in the face.

Blume,
I agree.
I run a service business also and look forward to meeting the customers dogs.
Gramps has a great one there!

Glad to hear you didn't get bit. Animals have senses that we humans lack. And often, they can protect us from potential dangers by them knowing something we don't.

I too get to meet a lot of customer's dogs & cats etc. Most often,, a good experience.

Well, hate to feel bad about such an upbeat thread, but my 9 year old Catahoula Cur, Bingo, died last night. Vet wasn't sure, but had put him on hear medication some time back. Didn't suffer much,m=, except he hardly ate at all last week.

Great dog, great friend. He WILL be missed!

From Cholo - "Great story, gramps! Dogs are simply special!" I agree.

Dogs are so loving and loyal. Someone once said, if you don't believe it lock your wife and your dog in the trunk of your car. Come back in an hour and see which one is so happy to see you.

CR244RD: I wish I could say something that would take away some of Your pain. But as You know I can`t. But I wish I could, and if I could, I would. Your Dog is a very special Member of Your Family. I am so very sorry for You loss.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind thoughts.

My Shepard did the same to me. While walking in our rock garden he got in front of me and would not let me go around him. When he would stop me he then would turn and bark at a specific rock. When I finally decided to look there was a four-foot rattler under it.

Great name for a dog.

I'm a dog breeder. I have five of my own, plus I take in the puppies I've produced as boarders, so I have six at the moment. Living behind enemy lines here in Connecticut. I appreciate the dogs ears that warn me when anyone approaches, coupled with multiple TV cameras, and I'm beginning to fence the place off.

Rough times are coming and its best to be prepared. A dog is perhaps the most important line of defense, because they stand watch and react.

If you don't believe that your dog can love you more than your spouse.... lock them both in your cars trunk for a hour.

When you open the lid to let them out... notice which one is happy to see you.
