Dodge Challenger Demon -

Pretty nice, not sure about the gas and Insurance though. I might be a little hard on tires too.

Oh sure..........you betcha...............
At my age I would need Depends, 3 pairs, and not an insignificant amount of restraint.

I'm kind of too old for it now and it'd be too much $$$. I wouldn't mind having a 70 or 71 Challenger or other old type.

It's great to see the Dodge,Ford, and Chevy building performance cars BUT the cost of the ticket to ride is way out of reach for the most folks. The 1971 Demon was originally a budget priced jr. muscle car targeted for the young guys. With the optional 340, high 13 second ET's with tuning and the right gears and affordable insurance it and Plymouth's Duster sold like crazy.
This new Demon will be in limited numbers and figure big price hikes by the dealers.

I was reading where it will come with only the drivers seat with passenger seat optional now that is cool and that the only trans might be the new 10 speed automatic.

I recall 426 hemi-powered cars being sold "as is,no warranty".

That was for the "race Hemi".
The regluarJoe Blow 'street' version got a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty and there were a few I knew of back in the day that got a factory replacement engine due to over enthuastic drivers. Of course if you used it in "Timed speed trials" your warranty was voided.

My first car was a 71 Demon 340 m4,3.55 sure grip. You're right...can't get a hp car for cheap anymore.

Sadly, I don't have the driving skills to handle 900+ horsepower, or even the "mere" 707 of the Hellcat. Even if I had the money. I'd have to figure the cost of a new set of tires, at least one traffic ticket, a replacement utility pole and a lawyer's retainer into the financing . . . :P

If I did have the money for a new Challenger, I think I'd opt for the R/T with the 5.7 hemi, and have it fitted with the biggest brakes and tightest handling package Mopar has, along with perhaps a cat-back performance exhaust system. Still amply fast - horsepower-wise, on par with the classic 440 Magnum of yore - and these days, cornering is at least as important as straight-line performance.

And if I had the money for a Chally with the Demon package . . . I think I'd just go find a nicely-restored '68 or '69 Charger R/T and buy that instead.

I'm not into ultra horsepower anymore, just something fun with okay performance. Last summer I bought a '94 Mustang Cobra and have been doing some bolt on Mods. First off was cold air inlet and headers. Then a lowering kit followed by tires and wheels. Next was a catback exhaust system and a rear gear change from a 3.08 to 3.55 gear ratio. All that plus a short throw shifter and timing change got me to about up to 300hp and a lot of driving fun.

Well it isn't a Demon with 700+ HP but it's my Lil" Red Beast 1985 Mustang LX with a 427 cube Windsor actually built on Dart Race block. With it's old school dual 650 Holley carbs and light weight along with only 550 HP...it puts a smile on my face plus you can fix or tune it with your screwdriver!
Have owned this Stang for 32 years now!

Still original paint car with 24,000 miles on the chassis....TKO-600 5 speed with Ford 9 inch rear and 3.50 gear/Detroit Locker.

That's nice, Mus408! The engine is real close to the one going in my wife's '67 T-Bird, that I hope to get finished this year. It's either finish it, or sell it, at this point. Seems I took on way too many projects if I plan to move.

I knew a guy that bought one of their lightweight drag cars in the mid 60s. They wouldn't warranty the drivetrain but did fix the radio and seat when it broke under warranty.

I heard it's coming with a transbrake. The Cobra Jet Mustangs came with a linelock but the transbrake will be a first for a production car.

I bought my '71 demon 340 in 1974 for $1800. Year and a half later and three sets of rear tires later, I sold it for $1800. Wish I still had that one.

I hear ya on that! Back in 1974 I had a new '74 Camaro Z/28 on order.
While waiting for it to come in, happened to drive by the Pontiac dealership used car lot and spotted a nice 1970 Challenger R/T sitting towards the back. Checked it out and saw the 426 Hemi emblems on the standard Challenger hood scoops...not a Shaker optioned Challenger.
Yep it was a legit Hemi Challenger with all the goodies automatic with 4.10 Dana.

Sales guy was asking $1500 bucks! Should have bought that thing and still have kept the 1972 Opel GT for daily use and forgot the Camaro!!
A friend of mine bought the Challenger couple weeks later.
Also during that time my brother owned a 1970 Hemicuda which he bought new in 1970 for $4700 bucks. He traded his '66 GTO in for that and still owns the Hemi to this day.

During the 70's gas shortages and high prices you could buy a muscle car really cheap. The worst choice I made was trading a 66 Fairlane GT in for a 72 Pinto. I got $600 for it. BIG MISTAKE!!
