I began disassembly and didn't drop hammer prior to attempting open back latch. Now... nothing wants to move .... grip- latch half-open and appears stuck ? HELP!

I had one brought to me in the same condition. With the mainspring housing latch open and all jammed up. I pointed the muzzle up,pulled the trigger so the hammer could be free to swing into the fired position. Play with it more. You will find the right combination. This guy had the mainspring strut out of it's location in the little cup at the end of the mainspring. He had given up and put it in the closet where it sat for about ten years. He was happy to have it back in operation again.

Sounds like the strut is caught on the pin. Instead of dropping into the mainspring cup it is pinched at the frame and one of the pins. I don't know the exact fix offhand beyond time and patience as you work things around.

Look at this site. The item they make is to prevent this from happening. I'm just posting as it shows what I think you have. If you look at the lower right pic it shows the strut and the pin it gets caught behind.

if the strut is "caught" and the housing is almost closed, just keep pressure on the trigger, and tap the muzzle on a padded bench top ( we keep a piece of carpet remnent on the bench top) and bounce, tap, bump away, keeping pressure on the trigger till the hammer goes forward, may take a while but it works........... 8)
if the housing latch lever is out any, you can pull on that, wiggle tap, till it comes lose and backs off..
