Heard on the radio this AM that DSG is going to be eliminating the hunting and shooting depts. in their stores as their gun related business is in the dumper. The bright idea to dis "black" guns and some of their PC views has taken quite a toll. Customers can't get it at Dicks fine we will apparently take our $$ else where.
 
Dicks are dicks. Many years ago my father-in-law was a good friend of Dick the founder of the store chain and I am sure he is rolling in his grave.
 
A quick google search revealed that this was announced in late August and they were shutting the hunting departments down in 10 of their stores. Best to research what you hear first.
 
I saw this on the news. I think I read Dicks’s sales were down 4%. Which makes me think there are gun owners who are still buying stuff from them.

I’m not the most eloquent, so I hope this makes sense, but:
You know if the gun owners of America could come to a single decision and have ONE voice, we wouldn’t have all this back and forth about gun rights. There shouldn’t be any gun owner shopping st Dicks after what the business decisions they’ve made.
 
Dick's has not been a friend of the hunting , shooting , 2A community for years and years. If someone is just figuring that out , that's great. Better to be late than miss the bus completely!

I can't remember how long ago , at least 15 years , when they talked about quitting selling handguns , the then CEO stated there was no reason for anyone to own a handgun. No idea if they actually quit selling handgun or not but they didn't need any more of my money from that point on. They never really had anything but the overpriced generic stuff anyway.
 
So how many waved the banner against Walmart yrs back when they took firearms out of some stores yet still happily shop there?

It was something he heard, with no posted links and I came up completely empty with a search besides headlines from August....
 
It’s been years since I stepped foot in Dick’s Sporting Goods.

I try about Walmart as much as possible. It’s very rare, maybe twice a year, that I go to one. The only exception is when we do an RV road trip. Walmart is the one stop to reload supplies in the RV while on the road. We didn’t do a three week trip this year so no Walmart needed.
 
Maybe they'll have some smokin' closeout deals. If so, go take advantage of them--and then laugh at them on the way out! :twisted:

I believe they are now Canadian-owned. When Dick's acquired Galyans, they quit handgun sales. They will be happier now selling mostly child-labor shoes and stylish "running wear".

Executives of Dick’s Sporting Goods say sales are down months after announcing the stores would stop selling assault-style guns and wouldn’t sell firearms or ammunition to people under the age of 21, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The decision came after the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14. That school shooting left 17 dead

The store also pulled most hunting items from 10 locations in August, CBS News reported

Looking at the numbers, executives said sales at stores and on the web fell 3.9 percent for the three-month period that ended Nov. 3, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Lack of sales in the hunting and electronics departments accounted for more than half of the decline.

Lower gun sales also contributed to lower sales in departments like outdoor equipment, since fewer hunters were entering the locations, Lee Belitsky, Dick’s Sporting Goods’ chief financial officer, told The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper said it was the fifth consecutive quarter that sales were down at the chain.




It's gratifying to see that Dick's suicidal move is starting to reap what Dick's sowed.

I'm not aware of anything I said being unverified. The OP said he heard Dicks was no longer selling and hunting/shooting merchandise. That is not only incorrect but old news.
 
OK, I'll jump on the band wagon . . . .

The last time I spent any money at Dick's was when they had a pre
Christmas sale and I got .45ACP for $8.99 box of fifty. I've kicked myself
ever since because I only bought 1,000. :roll:

Locally, when Dick's bought out Galyons sporting goods, they stopped selling handguns. For the short time that they were here as Galyons, I purchased several firearms and a significant amount of ammo and miscellaneous stuff there. After the transition to Dick's, they cut back significantly on long arms and ammo. Plus they lost knowledgeable hunting/shooting staff. I didn't see the point in going back. I did try a couple of times, but there was nothing that interested me, and the staff seemed to discourage people from even thinking about something behind the gun counter.

By the way, I would be surprised if they had a close out sale on firearms. Didn't they destroy their AR stock after deciding to stop selling them?
 
A couple of years ago, Dick's was the only store with any chance of having 22lr in stock in my neck of the woods. While picking up some 22's I saw a Uberti Cattleman 45C on clearance, the 4 clicking, non-firing pin version. I hauled that six shooter out the door for $330.

Since they went to the 21 to buy any gun non-sense, I have not been back.

Oh well, not selling guns means they can stock more curling paraphernalia.
 
I liked Field and Stream. They had a good selection of ammo and firearms for a box store. Never had much use for Dick's. But I have not entered a Dick's or Field and Stream since they announced they were destroying all their AR-15 stock and no ammo sales to adults under age 21.

It appears they are considering taking the whole department out of all the stores based on the 10 where it's being tested.
