Well, it's been a long while since I had any computer issues,, but I opened an email a while ago, from the USPS. I have an account from them, and it looked legit.
Well,,, it wasn't.
Apparently, I got hacked & my computer got locked up.
I spent about an hour, on the phone, and was finally able to get my stuff unlocked. WHEW!!!!!!!
If I could ever get my hands on an hacker, scammer, or such vile folks,,, the bleeding heart liberals would WISH I'd use the torture methods they dislike. I can promise I'd make them suffer a whole lot for the things they do to people. Hackers, scammers & the like need to be publicly tortured & then beheaded. The final scene from "Braveheart" comes to mind. Start with their manhood,,, and then work to the final end.

We have so many out of work vets. The government should hire them and give them names and locations. After a bit I’m pretty sure hacking would trickle to a stop. They only do it because they get away with it.

Had a problem with the computer in our office. Someone opened an email that appeared legit. The computer locked up. She called the name that appeared, and looked to her to be a Windows site. Once there the computer appeared to be 'fixed' but ended up in worse shape. Seems it too was bogus and even eventually we had to replace the entire computer. I was told that if the computer ever locks up to simply turn it off. DO NOT ever go to the site that is suggested on screen.

We have to sit through an hour of interactive cyber awareness training every year. Just this year they give you the option of testing out at the beginning, since the info hasn't really changed for several years. Sounds like y'all could benefit from the same thing.

I get SICK and TIRED of all the spamming email ads that you get in the email these days; same sites over and over on the same day,; "blocking" them seems to do nothing NOR does marking them as spam; I think a huge lawsuit needs to filed against these companies and maybe against the email providers for NOT stopping it.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
Some of those emails can be tricky when they appear to come from somebody you do business with. Clicking a link is so easy to do without much thought. I make it a point never click through right away. Gives me time to think about it.

I have never been bothered by a virus because I don't click on strange links. Just placing your mouse pointer over a link should show the address it's linking to. Right here in this forum, if I place my pointer over a link, it shows the entire link at the very bottom left of my screen. If you see something like "www.usps.com/gotomyplace" you can be pretty sure it's not going to take you to the legit USPS website.

I've seen plenty of emails that look legit but when I look where the link will take me, I don't trust it. If you place your pointer over the "quote" link in this post, you should see this address appear at the bottom of your screen.

Always check your links before clicking on them.

I do the same thing Cary !!

I'll admit it was my fault for opening what appeared to be a totally legit site,, that I have an account with. Only after I opened it, did it screw up my computer.
BUT,, luckily, I was able to get it fixed.

And I like the idea of using out of work vets to hunt down & "discuss" things with spammers & hackers.

My last job - we had offices in 5 states. Emails got hacked and everyone was getting others emails; couldn't get our own. Total cluster. Our computer tech did some digging and found out it was the boss (owner) who started it by opening a bad email. When they pointed it out he got mad and fired them. At least they fixed it before they left.

Good for you. More people should do that.

Let me put my position a little clearer. Hire combat vets to go out and remove the hackers from the gene pool. It might take a while but eventually it will work.

Now I know there are folks who insist that capital punishment doesn't prevent crime. Well, let me tell you this little fact. Capital punishment is 100% effective. No dead person ever committed another crime.

While I like your basic idea, who will administer it? Something that large
WILL need appreciable oversight for it to be effective. Where would the
"line" be set to differentiate between legitimate commerce and what most
of us know as spam?

The vast majority of true spam is based on the operating system being used.

The number of malicious programs created for Windows, Linux and Mac OS
closely correlates to the market share that each of these operating systems
has achieved.
But also has the OS's internals to consider. For example, to write something
to a Linux system (presuming the person installed it correctly) you MUST
have the system administrator password. Without it, the write to your HD
fails. If the write to the HD fails, the malware MUST be active ON the
computer for it to do anything. Which means it can be cleared simply by
restarting your computer.

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but your choice of operating system
determines the likely hood of you being "invaded". - - - - Sorry.
