Deep freeze up here in Maine 40 below in the North country, we had about minus 20 in our neck of the woods.
A balmy minus 5 at the moment! Its about 1:30 in the afternoon! Sun is low in the sky doesn't amount to much! ps

We had it yesterday here in the midwest.... passed it on to you guys out east. 3 above when I got up this morning with a southwest wind.... 22 degrees now - think I'll go out in the back yard and do some sunbathing (gotta work on my tan).

WI here also.
Yesterday barely made 1 degree.
But I will take the cold over the deep snow any time.
Looks like that "January Thaw" this week.
Can't wait to see what the Winter temps will be when we beat the "climate change". [/sarc]

Do you guys like it? Why, or how? I remember when we moved to Chicago, and every morning passing the bank on the way to work. Just watching the temp go down and down and down….I had no idea it got that cold! Holy cow!

It’s 61 right now in Dallas. A long sleeve shirt is enough.

But seriously, is it fun to live there when it’s so cold?

With wind chill it was -48 here last week. With heavy clothes I don't mind it but it's sure tough on machinery.

Personally, I hate Winter more every year. When the temp goes below about 20, it takes my breath away when outside so I use a gaiter. Still isn't real comfortable though.
On the other hand, a four season has its advantages (IMO) in that it seems to keep bug populations in check, and some "human varmints".
It also makes the other three seasons more appreciated, again, just my opinion.
That first week it hits 70 is always great.
So it's kind of a trade off I guess, and you just have to take the bad with the good.

A balmy +12 degrees here in NY...........
After 48 years, I'm starting NOT to miss Minnesota :-)

Not quite that bad here but it was 16° when I got up this morning. Hasn't past 25° all day. Single digit wind chill this morning. Though not 'down East' it is cold for Northern Maryland. Heat wave due tomorrow, prediction is 40°.

When I woke up today, it was a balmy 24 degrees. Considering we have been in negative territory for many days in the last couple weeks, it felt warm.
We were supposed to get to 34 today (which we did). Warm enough to pressure wash dog kennels, if the sun held out.

When I went to hook up the hose to the pressure washer, the hose connector broke. I went to the barn to get my emergency "flex" hose.
I hooked up the flex hose, and gave the pull cord a pull. It broke off the rope in my hand.
I removed the pull starter mechanism, and attempted to shorten the pull cord and re tension the spring. The spring snapped.
I pulled the recoil starter off a few extra assorted motors in the barn to see if any would work, or be made to work. It was hopeless. No way.
I retired to the house, and spent 45 minutes searching amazon looking for a replacement part that wasn't pure garbage. Ordered one that will be here Thursday.
Resorted to using my back up electric pressure washer. But it only has a 20' hose, and my flex back up water hose is only 25'. I need at least 100' combined length to do the job, so it was a trip to Wally World to get a longer hose. Wouldn't you know, it's off season for hoses. All they had was a crappy 50' hose, which I did buy anyway, figuring I could do most of the job between the 25' hose, the 50' hose, and the 20' wand hose.

It took twice the time to do the job with the electric, and by the time I finished the day was shot. All because things get weak and brittle when it gets cold.

I'm thinking Florida looks pretty tempting. Especially when fishing and sailing are my favorite activities...

Wow, I don't know how you guys can put up with that. 50 degrees and a cold breeze keeps me in the house. I guess I'm just too spoiled now.

Well, it can get pretty cold here, but still not as extreme as places even farther north. That being said, I simply cannot tolerate the winter as well as I could forty years ago. I have developed a cold air asthma that is mild but bothersome. A few years ago, I managed to slip on black ice on my concrete steps, breaking vertebrae and ribs. Past the fun age of sledding with my kids and building snowmen.
Plus, everything seems to hurt when it is cold. Every joint, bone and muscle aches. In mild weather, I don’t feel like I am aging, but in cold weather, I feel like I am not going to make it through the winter.
I never thought that I would move to a warmer area in my retirement, but I am looking now. I hope next winter I will be in at least a moderately warmer area.

I am in Tampa-St Pete, so wintertime here is pretty docile, but I pay for it in the summertime.
There isn’t a real winter here, right now it 58 degrees according to Accuweather.

But I have been outside in -60 temps in Alaska, so I do know what extreme cold is. And that was with no wind.
