Was just looking at an SP101 old 38 special chambering, stainless with shorter barrel (2" or little over, not the 3"), spur hammer.

Was beat outside from being carried, but appeared sound otherwise. Since I would not be firing 357, the 38 chambering is no deal breaker. And I am sure it will stand up to heavy +P 38 loads for a long, long time.

Price today is $260, but sale starting tomorrow put it at $230. Thinking about stopping by and seeing, if still available. But wanted forums opinion, if this was decent price for what will be a knock around, car type gun?

Also any thoughts on what to check out on gun?

Thanks in advance for you opinions and advice.

I once bought a 38spl 2 1/4" SP101 SPNY for $175 & thought I stole it about 10 years ago..
$230 would be a most excelent price IMO..

Assuming the gun in question is mechanicaly sound and hasn't been tinkered with....I'd give $230 for it perty-quick.

Went over today and the SP 101 sold last night before going on sale today. So someone paid the pre sale price of $260.

Thanks for responses.

Thats a real bummer!!! :(

But even at $260, that would have been a good buy (assuming all ok with lockup and end shake). A red scotch-bright pad ($2.00) and a little elbow grease would have restored that gun to like new condition.

Remember, used gun prices are negotiable. I would have told them, I'd give 'em $230 on the spot!!
