I know a lot of you here don't watch or like racing but Jr. is retiring. He will be missed. He was a gret asset to NASCAR.

I was a Dale Earnhardt fan and then a Jr fan. He said today, that when his dad passed many thought that he would be another like him. He said all he really wanted to do was race. Winning is nice but just driving was what he wanted to do and was able to. I believe that the concussions he has suffered were a large reason for his decision. In ten years he wants to remember today.

I betbhe had a long talk with Carl Edwards and his wife, who is a doc in the field of concussions.
I bet his new wife had some input.
I'd bet that both things happened. Quit while all the parts are still working as designed.

Another thing is that I don't think that he is really into the racing any more since he's been back. He's only in 26th (?) place or so and not looking to get much better. Why not quit while you still can and enjoy life.

I just hope that he will retire and stay retired....I see Jeff Gordon has occasionally gotten back behind the wheel...Michael waltrip didn't really retire but he only runs one or two big restrictor plate races a year...Neil Bonnet, the Allisons, etc are examples of "just one more race"...the technology is so advanced that being out of a car for any time at all is going to dull your senses and make risks unacceptable..When you quit...stay quit and find a way to be involvded by being a car owner, etc..but not an active driving role.

One of my favorite drivers. I think he is smart to retire and considering the risks for his family now it's definitely for the best. He is a car and team owner so you know he will still be in the NASCAR race business for a long time to come.
