DA 45Acp

I have no interest in shooting semi-auto ammo from a revolver but .... agree the Redhawk platform would be over-kill.

I would seriously consider a GP in .41 Mag or maybe even .44 Special.

Has Ruger ever offered a DA 45ACP? Would anyone else buy one if they did?

I think a DA would be nice; something between the GP-100 and the SP-101 in size, five shot. I would consider buying one.

Think you're right on track Hugh. Of course, I'm old school and still miss new production Security / Service / Speed Six's!

Just buy a .44 spcl and be done with it. In cowboy loadings it is the same as the .45 acp and can be loaded to near Magnum velocities in an appropriate platform. I personally see no advantage to shooting 9 mm or .45 acp's in an revolver. So, no I wouldn't buy one. Sorry about the long post.

As soon as Ruger makes one in DA.

Most "experts" recommend not using hand loads for self defense. If you go by that recommendation, how many self defense choices do you have in 44 spc? Now how many do you have in 45 acp? You can sign me up for a 45 acp double action in a 5 shot gp100/sp101. Wish Taurus still made theirs. Course I would also take the 44 spcl in a gp100/sp101 too :)

A 5-shot ruger GP-100 in 41 mag or 45acp would make sense to me but don't expect Ruger to make one. Got Money?? :D :D

All it takes is time and money. Dave will do you a 5 shot 44 Spec also.

I think he has several packages on the GP-100 8) 8)

Yes, Dave Clements. At the time he listed only the 10mm conversion, but Iasked and he said 41 Spec is no problemo.

He recently started offering the 5x44 Spec again also.

Agreed, a Redhawk in .45 ACP would be overkill. Unless. Unless it was also capable of shooting .45 Colt. I saw a custom once that gave me a case of the hot-n-cold running wants. It was a round-butt, short barrel Redhawk that takes .45 ACP and .45 Colt on moon clips; build it on a .454 Casull gun and have the best of all three! I could go for something like that, if it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Which it would.

A GP in .45 ACP (or .44 Special) 5-shooter would be quite handy. For that matter, an L-frame Smith would be also.
