Cylinders & Throats

Drove to Wake Forest this wknd & spent a nice but cool day with DougGuy(CastBoolit Forum) & we fixed my cyls. & throats on 5 revolvers all had uneven throats (different sizes)& the usual ruff throats, not no more.

I disassembled & DougGuy worked his magic !! not really as he has a bench full of the correct tools to do the job with!!

All came home with matching throats & smooth forcing cones!!!

Here`s a pic of my blued GP100 throat, he cleaned it up nicely with a few turns of a 5degree cutter.
The throats he cut then polished to exactly the same thing (the best I could feel with the pin gage)enuff typing , I`ll let the pic say the rest !



Ifin ya thinkin of doing it yourself like I was there`s no way to afford all the pin gages,bushings & pilots to do it RIGHT.

Looks good...and I need to send some of mine to him. I pm'ed him and I just have not gotten around to it. I actually asked about the 45's, but I am going to sell them, so it would just be the 357's and 44's, now, but still a sack full.

I`ve measured the best I could with round bullets & known my cyls. needed work & the throats weren't the smoothest either , but after talking to DougGuy I knew that he knew what he was talkin `bout, but after arriving & seeing what tools he had I was convenced in my mind I was at the rite place & that my revolvers would be finished properly !!

In my case a tank of gas & his fees (which is reasonable to us shooters)made it a no brainer!!

Doug reamed a .45 Vaquero cylinder for me, which Ruger very kindly replaced when I sent the gun to them for a thread constriction in the bore. No, they didn't fix the thread constriction. Guess I'll be sending the entire gun to Doug so he can ream the new cylinder and do his Taylor Throating on it.
