What was the reason for extending the pin inthe right side? Is it just to have a positive stop for the safety?

Also after doing a custom build what are your thoughts on the quality of the SR1911? I have considered a Wilson drop in barrel and bushing. My factory barrel crown is rough...is it worth getting it crowned by a gunsmith?
