I ordered a custom kitchen knife for my wife about a year ago and finally got it today. It was hand forged by Matt from http://www.ml-knives.com/ . My wife wanted a fairly large kitchen knife similar to the one Chef Giada uses so I asked Matt to make something for her. My wife and I are both really pleased with the way it turned out. She hasn't gotten to try it out yet but will probably use it tomorrow. I think it is going to work great and should make one heck of a slicer and I think it will do well chopping also. Like all the knives I have gotten from Matt it is very Sharp!

Anyway, I thought I'd post some pictures.

It is 11 1/2" OAL with a 7" blade made from 1095. The blade is about 2" at the widest and 3/32" thick. It has a maple burl handle and my wife's initials are stamped in the tang. My wife wanted the hammer marks and patina left on the blade.

That's a nice one. Sort of a Hudson Bay pattern. I bet it will work good and last a long time.

I really like the shape of that blade, your wife should really like it. The blades are nice and heavy. I like the blade with the patina and hammer marks.

You have posted pictures of his knives and I couldn't resist. I know I've posted this picture before. These are my two knives from Matt. I use the paring knife more than the chef's knife.

I have two more on order. One is a kitchen knife to be a Christmas present for the wife's boss. It should come in time. The boss really likes knives, so it should go over very well. The other knife is one of his drop point hunters for myself. I'll post some pictures when they come.

It looks like your blade has a lot more curve to it than mine.

Thanks. Matt offers a couple versions of a Hudson Bay Camp and the blade on this kitchen knife is similar to his "swept version".

Very nice! Please do post pictures when you get the others. I enjoy seeing Matt's work.

I also have a couple more on order with him. A large and small straight back design that I should get around October or November. Matt's knives are top of the line and addictive too. I really like them and being hand forged, each one is completely unique.

Yes, this knife has a good bit of belly to it. He really nailed the design. It's exactly what we asked him to make.

Here are a few pictures of the others I have. I have posted these before as well.

Custom Hudson Bay Camp, Custom Drop Point, and a Short Hunter.

Here is an old Briddell meat cleaver I bought and cleaned up that Matt re-handled for me with some antique tiger maple.

Thanks,
I absolutely love the antique tiger maple handles on those knives. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. Very, very nice.
