That would have been one of the greatest western books ever written except for the terrible ending.

I recognized the movie was "Lonesome Dove" immediately. One of my favorites. In looking at the picture,,, I think I see how they got those pigs to follow that wagon. Look at the pot hanging down under the wagon. Filled with feed for the pigs I'd bet.

I have read, and I believe it is true, the author Larry McMurtry based the idea of Lonesome Dove on the actual true account of Oliver Loving and Charles Goodnight. There are many areas in the book that closely pattern the Goodnight-Loving account of their cattle drive.
