Keep seeing the add for this 'plant butter' .... and after about the 3rd time I started thinking about this.......

is not this just .... margarine?

I went to the trouble to make sure.... and so looked up margarines ingredients .... vegetable oil? Last time I checked (did not look this up) a vegetable is a plant....

Thanks for the links, BB.

Goes right along with all the plant-based liquids marketed using a brand name that includes the term "milk".

As somebody once said "There's one born every minute!"

Country Crock isn’t BUTTER in any form!!! They peddled their product for years using hydrogenation, which causes trans fats, to unsuspecting consumers. How many heart attacks did they cause?

Now this is funny. We don’t use any margarine at our house. I haven’t seen this in stores either, but I’ll look next time.

It’s just advertising. The way they have peanut butter labeled cholesterol free.

Hi,

Barring cross contamination in the manufacturing process, It's gluten free, too... ;)

I kinda like the sugar free sweetener Stevia. Read the packet: first ingredient, dextrose. Hmmm... a good reason to keep working on our vocabulary words homework, no?

By the way, do you know what scientists call herbivores? Prey.

Hi,

Recently a number of restaurants, especially fast food places, have jumped on the bandwagon of "Beyond Meat" and other trade names for veggie burger, fowl nuggets, and other products which look like meat on a good day but are made from some kind of green stuff (Not Soylent!)

When one of the places I go now and again asked if I'd like to try one of the 100% plant based protein products they sell, I told the lady I'd been on "that" diet pretty much all my life. She didn't understand that chunk of dead cow I wanted between two pieces of bread was also 100% plant based... :)

Continuing with hunters and prey, a buddy was asked why he hunts. He asked the person if they eat meat. Yes, they did. "Ok, if you eat meat, you're a carnivore. If you're a carnivore, you're either a predator or a scavenger. I don't like to scavenge..."

Grew up around dairies. I remember the first time I tasted margarine. My aunt told me it tasted just like butter. I spit it out. Hours later I thought up a perfect come back (always happens like that). They should kill the cow it came from.

Hey I was probably six.

Does anyone remember when margarine simply looked like grease and you had to add yellow food coloring?
My mother had a tool in the cupboard for mixing the food coloring in.

First, I have to say I don't use any margarine in my food... mostly olive oil.. I was going through a lot of butter the last few years along with Cabots' extra sharp cheese until back in April when they cut all my clothes off and jammed all those things up through my crotch..... now I try to limit both.

Burger King's Impossible Burger is really not that bad........ if you add catsup.... I'll still get a 'real' burger most of the time when out on the road but I don't add the fries anymore.

I recall it being packaged in a sealed clear plastic bag, and there was a little "capsule" of the yellow coloring in there as well. You smashed the capsule and then massaged the contents until the color was uniformly distributed and then squeezed the whole mess out thru the corner that you tore off the bag.

I’m surprised the dairy industry hasn’t raised Old Ned about that crap being labeled as “butter”. Maybe they have, or maybe they gave up after the arrival of “almond milk”.

I always figured milk came out of some sort of nipple. And butter was made from milk.

The dairy industry is fighting the "plant milk" thing tooth and nail.

Not sure about the "plant butter" situation.

Hi,

We've had peanut butter, apple butter, and probably one or two others for so long I'd imagine their lawyers told 'em to just put "Real" in front of "Butter" on the container and save $100s of $1000s in legal fees.
