Copper plated grip frame?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Yes, I had one that I had brass plated and they first plated it with copper for adhesion which is standard procedure. But the copper will tarnish easy, turn black and make your hand stink like wet pennies and a bloody corpse. You can lacquer coat it but it won't last long and you have to redo it. Brass isn't as bad. Nickel plating would be best.

Or just put a new model all steel grip frame on it, either blue or stainless steel like mine below. Pretty simple to adapt. Just some ideas.

I have copper plated a lot of brass trolling spoons for Salmon fishing, but I have never tried it with Aluminum...

Interesting thought...

Thanks for the replies. I thought about putting a polished stainless frame on it. Just wasn't sure. It looks good on yours though. I just thought copper might look good on one. Like you said though it would have to be kept polished up.

Are you certain it's copper plated and not a solid brass grip frame. Ruger made them back in the end of the Old Models era.

Several aftermarket foundrys made XR3-RED and Dragoon brass grip frames, as well, both in Old Model and New Model configurations.

There are also Copper alloys which are very strong. Not sure if frames for Rugers were made from any.

I would, with out hesitation, say no. Investment cast steel, stainless steel, cast brass or aluminum (grip frames only).
