I would like to build an accurate 10/22 which for me would mean MOA or better. However I also like the tacticool look. So I would like to mount an accurate barrel/receiver on either the new ATI AR-22 stock which looks really nice and has the adjustable cheek piece or the Troy AR chassis which is aluminum and may or may not be more rigid. So do you think this would work or would I not be able to achieve my accuracy standard in this configuration? Or should I just forget it and go with the standard aftermarket barrel and target stocks? TC

I I'll offer my opinion. I wouldn't expect tacti-cool and MOA or better to be used in the same sentence in regards to a 10/22. I would think you might look at adjustable bench rest stocks. Bell and Carlson have either a two way or three way adjustable.

Also you end thinking about a "standard" aftermarket barrel. Not sure there is a standard. There are light weight bull barrels heavier longer barrels short 16 and 1/4 inch barrels. I suppose each barrel would serve a different purpose. I'm not too familiar with the ATI stock you mention. Will it accept a bull barrel or a standard carbine factory taper?

Also let me say 10/22s for the most part are cheap enough why not have several? One bench rest one tactical style etc.

Good luck and check out Rimfire Central. They have some of everything in the 10/22 market.

I bought a Ruger SR-22 and modified the crap out of it, stock it comes with a 16" bull barrel plus a 2" flash hider to get to a legal 18" and its very accurate to 75 yards, I can even place rounds into a full sized silhouette @ 150 yards with 6 to 8 inch groups using iron sights, DAM GOOD FOR A .22LR, in the picture below I had the M16 look going. At the moment I took off the front A2 sight and put a cheap red dot scope on it, when I go camping darn near everybody wants to shoot it and I end up running 500 rounds through it.

Actually 16 inches is the min legal rifle barrel length.

Dennis.

Dang good shooter rested or from a Harris BRMS and with just a hint of tactifoolishness about the stock.
B&C Varmint/Target – Kidd Classic receiver & innards w/18” polished bull, Single Stage tweaked to ~ 1 lb.
Half inch or less at 50 yards with bout any half decent SV and not much worse with Mini-Mag HP or Velocitor.

Another nice looking machine. Just a question, if you took this receiver and barrel and mounted it in a Troy aluminum stock could you not expect the same accuracy? If not why not? TC

Volquartsen extractor and firing pin .. .. .. polished the sear/hammer etc. etc. the trigger is smooth, crisp, and breaks at 3 pounds now.
Then added the Tapco butt stock and pistol grip. Added the picatinney rails on the fore grip and cobra stitched my own sling, along with M16 style sights.
YUP, that’s about it …..

I don't know a thing about a Troy but same as any stock, if you don’t stress the barreled action while solidly mounting the thing to its foundation so them harmonic vibes will remain consistent shot to shot and after you put the mess back together then it should shoot as well as you can and according to what ammo it’s being fed.

SOMEWHAT TRUE THERE BIG GUY !
In the USA, 16" inches is the minimum barrel length in all 50 states, per federal law, and 18" inch minimum barrel length in some areas. Overall length of a rifle needs to be longer than 26" inches unless you obtain an AFT NFA "short-barrel" rifle tax stamp.
18 inches up here in the NW corner of the USA.

I too am in Wa state, and I own several 16" barreled rifles. I have never heard of an 18" minimum requirement for barrel length on any rifle; 18" would be the legal minimum for shotguns.

No reason why a tacticool 10/22 can't shoot MOA. I'd skip the ATI stock though. The Troy or Nordic should do fine. It will come down to the quality of the barrel. Don't skimp and get a hundred dollar barrel. Get a good barrel and you'll have a fine shooting rifle. I'm partial to the mid weight barrels from Clark and Shilen.

I am in Washington too. 16" barrel minimum for as long as I have been here. Total overall length of rifle is a whole different subject.
